Justin Simmons has been a productive running back since he was selected with the 98th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos.
Simmons quickly in his career emerged as one of the better safeties in the entire NFL. He went to the Pro Bowl twice in 2020 and 2023 and has been named a second-team All-Pro member four times.
His playmaking at the position has been especially impressive, as he has 30 interceptions since joining the league in 2016. He is also the leader among all active players in career interceptions against Patrick Mahomes.
He was recently cut by the Broncos in a salary cap-saving move.
Here’s a look at which NFL teams could be fits for Simmons.
Justin Simmons Free Agency Landing Spots
There are still a lot of good safeties out there, as the entire defensive secondary has some really good players available. There are plenty of teams that need a safety with experience like Simmons.
Packers Build Dynamic Secondary in Green Bay
The Green Bay Packers have quietly had one of the best offseasons of any team in the NFL. They signed safety Xavier McKinney on defense and running back Josh Jacobs on the offensive side of the ball.
Green Bay has a ton of young talent on the offensive side of the ball who are all low-draft picks. That has allowed them to be aggressive in signing guys, and they need to get better on the defensive side of the ball.
McKinney and Simmons would give the Packers arguably the best safety duo in the NFL, and Simmons would provide the team with great leadership on a young team.
The Lions won the NFC North last year, but bringing Simmons in could be the type of move that makes Green Bay the team to beat in the division.
Colts Get the Secondary Help the Team Is Looking For
The Indianapolis Colts have been one of the most talked about teams when it comes to acquiring secondary help. The team has been in rumors about possibly trading for L’Jarius Sneed of the Kansas City Chiefs, but nothing has come of that so far.
The team still needs help in the secondary, and Simmons would be a good fit in a division with young talented quarterbacks like C.J. Stroud and Trevor Lawrence.
Indianapolis has talent in many key positions, and getting a safety like Simmons could be just what the team needs to push itself into the playoffs.
Simmons Could Be Headed to the AFC North
One of the teams that could use some secondary help is the Cincinnati Bengals. The team has as much offensive firepower as any team in the league, but the secondary could use another talented playmaker.
If the Bengals are healthy, this team figures to be among the best teams in the AFC. If you are going to beat teams like the Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens, you have to have guys who can stop the pass.
Simmons fills that role perfectly and could be a move that helps the Bengals get back to the Super Bowl.
