Odell Beckham Jr.’s Free Agency Fits: Jets, Chargers, Patriots Among Potential Landing Spots

Odell Beckham Jr. is a free agent yet again. The Jets, Chargers, and Patriots could be among potential free agency fits for the veteran receiver.

While most of the NFL‘s highly-coveted receivers were signed within the first few days of free agency, one of the league’s most dynamic playmakers is now available.

The Baltimore Ravens released Odell Beckham Jr. with a post-June 1 designation on during the first week of free agency, making him an unrestricted free agent.

The WR posted his goodbye to Baltimore on social media.

“Swea on everything I appreciate the Flock more than yall could EVER imagine. Did everything I could wit the opportunities I had. Wish I got to do it big for yall. Thank you for the Vibez! To the City of Baltimore I f— wit yall forever FRRRR. And most importantly to my brothers over there this sh-t a lifetime sentence, I love yall! BiggestTruzzz”

With goodbyes out of the way, what teams could make a run at the veteran superstar pass-catcher? Let’s take a look.

Odell Beckham Jr. Free Agency Fits

It’s hard to believe that the last time Beckham had over 1,000 receiving yards was five years ago, in 2019 with the Cleveland Browns. While injuries have slowed him from the No. 1 receiver he once was, Beckham has proven to be a serviceable veteran.

After missing the entire 2022 campaign rehabbing from a torn ACL he suffered in Super Bowl 56 with the Los Angeles Rams, Beckham caught 35 passes for 565 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games with the Ravens.

New York Jets Present Opportunity To Play With Aaron Rodgers

Beckham has played with Eli Manning, Baker Mayfield, Matthew Stafford, and Lamar Jackson. Aaron Rodgers is among the most talented passers that any veteran receiver could want to work with.

Outside of Garrett Wilson, New York’s receiver room is underwhelming. Rodgers has worked with worse, but bouncing back from a torn Achilles would be much easier with a sure-handed weapon like Beckham.

Beckham’s best days came at MetLife Stadium, as a member of the New York Giants. Perhaps he can replicate that magic much later in his career with Rodgers.

Los Angeles Chargers Need Wide Receiver Help

After releasing Mike Williams to save cap space and trading Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears for a fourth-round pick, the Los Angeles Chargers are now desperate for receiver help.

While they can select a top wideout with the No. 5 pick in the NFL Draft, adding a veteran receiver like Beckham for Justin Herbert makes sense.

New head coach Jim Harbaugh managed plenty of big personalities throughout his career, and it’s plausible to see him calling his brother for a report card on Beckham’s time in Baltimore. Beckham seemingly enjoyed his time in Los Angeles with the Rams, and now an opportunity could present itself with the Chargers.

New England Patriots Could Use Veteran Presence

If we know one thing about Beckham, he loves securing a payday.

At 31 years old, Beckham has already won a Super Bowl. He’s made one of the most memorable catches in NFL history. He could get one last payday from the New England Patriots, who could be looking for some excitement with a rebuilding team.

Beckham played under the Patriots’ new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt in Cleveland, though it wasn’t Van Pelt’s offense. After being hired by the Browns, Van Pelt reportedly spoke with Ben McAdoo, who got the most out of Beckham with the Giants.

The Patriots will likely select a rookie quarterback with the No. 3 pick. Currently, their best receivers are Kendrick Bourne and DeMario Douglas. Adding Beckham in New England could help take pressure off their rookie quarterback.
