Eagles 2024 7-Round NFL Mock Draft: Legend Jason Kelce Replaced on the O-Line, Jermaine Burton Adds WR Depth

The Philadelphia Eagles find Jason Kelce's replacement and add prominent pieces at positions of need in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft.

The Philadelphia Eagles 2023 season took an unexpected nosedive after a 10-2 start and culminated with an early exit from the NFL playoffs with a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round.

The organization decided to keep Nick Sirianni as the head coach but made some drastic changes across the rest of the coaching staff and will attempt to retool the roster this offseason.

The Eagles have made some aggressive moves through the first week of free agency but still have eight picks in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft to address the needs of the roster, which we will do by using the PFN Mock Draft Simulator based on their current draft capital.

Philadelphia Eagles 2024 NFL Draft Picks

Saquon Barkley and Bryce Huff are the biggest additions to the Eagles’ roster through the first couple of days of the new league year, but Philadelphia still has some major needs to address moving forward.

Jason Kelce’s outstanding NFL career has ended, leaving one of the most talented offensive lines in the league without a Hall of Fame-caliber center to lead the unit.

In addition, Philadelphia’s pass defense went from one of the stingiest groups in the league two years ago to giving up an average of 255 passing yards per game, which ranked 30th in the NFL.

The Eagles still have Darius Slay and James Bradberry under contract and recently re-signed C.J. Gardner-Johnson, but the secondary is another aspect of the roster that could be addressed in this draft.

    • Round 1, Pick 22: Jackson Powers-Johnson, C, Oregon
    • Round 2, Pick 50: Ennis Rakestraw Jr., CB, Missouri
    • Round 2, Pick 53: Edgerrin Cooper, LB, Texas A&M
    • Round 3*, Pick 98: Jermaine Burton, WR, Alabama
    • Round 5, Pick 161: Sataoa Laumea, G, Utah
    • Round 5*, Pick 171: Sione Vaki, S, Utah
    • Round 5*, Pick 172: Joe Milton, QB, Tennessee
    • Round 6*, Pick 210: Tyrone Tracy Jr., RB, Purdue

Philadelphia Eagles 7-Round 2024 NFL Mock Draft

    Round 1, Pick 22: Jackson Powers-Johnson, C, Oregon

The replacement for the future Hall of Fame center comes immediately, with the imposing Jackson Powers-Johnson from Oregon falling in their lap at 22 overall.

Powers-Johnson is massive for a center prospect at 6’3” and 328 pounds but moves deceptively well and can provide the type of range that can open up the entire playbook for Jalen Hurts and Barkley to keep this running game amongst the most formidable in the NFL.

Powers-Johnson certainly wouldn’t be an immediate upgrade to Kelce, but the falloff wouldn’t be drastic with his excellent push and bruiser mentality in the running game.

Round 2, Pick 50: Ennis Rakestraw Jr., CB, Missouri

There is something about the way Ennis Rakestraw Jr. plays that screams Philadelphia with his physicality and competitive spirit at the cornerback position. His athletic profile isn’t going to generate the wow factor, but the lack of elite top speed is one of the few real knocks on Rakestraw’s résumé.

Rakestraw’s physicality — namely in run support, press coverage, and at the catchpoint — short area quickness, and technical discipline all translate favorably to the next level.

Round 2, Pick 53: Edgerrin Cooper, LB, Texas A&M

In this mock, the Eagles get extraordinary value, with arguably the best linebacker in the class falling to them in the back half of Round 2. Edgerrin Cooper‘s plus-level burst and athleticism, paired with his high football IQ, make it look like he’s even faster than his impressive profile suggests.

There are some concerns about how Cooper engages offensive linemen who get to him on the second level. Still, with talents like Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis anchoring the interior in front of him, Cooper could thrive as a sideline-to-sideline playmaker.

Round 3, Pick 98: Jermaine Burton, WR, Alabama

A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith form one of the best WR duos in the league, but there isn’t much to get excited about with the WR depth behind them. That changes instantly with the selection of Alabama’s Jermaine Burton.

Burton has elite ball-tracking skills, which pair perfectly with his ability to create separation on vertical routes. His strengths could complement Brown and Smith very well, which could add an extra element to this offense that Quez Watkins and Julio Jones simply didn’t offer.

Round 5, Pick 161: Sataoa Laumea, G, Utah

The Eagles have shown a commitment throughout recent years to invest heavily in the trenches on both sides of the ball, and that trend continues with the team snagging Sataoa Laumea out of Utah in the fifth round.

Laumea provides positional and schematic versatility along the unit up front, with time spent at both guard and tackle during his collegiate career. At the professional level, he projects inside to prevent putting him in isolation against speedy edge rushers.

Ultimately, Laumea provides a versatile floor as a prospect who could develop into a critical depth piece for an NFL offensive line.

Round 5, Pick 171: Sione Vaki, S, Utah

The Eagles’ current collection of safeties could certainly use a bit more depth after the group’s struggles in 2023. In addition, Sydney Brown suffered a torn ACL in Week 18 that threatens his availability to start the 2024 season.

Utah’s Sione Vaki provides a potential rotational piece with his quick processing instincts and run-support capabilities. The versatility Vaki provides to any NFL roster makes him one of the more intriguing Day 3 prospects in this draft class.

Vaki’s NFL Combine performance was a bit of a disappointment, with his 4.62 seconds showing in the 40-yard dash, but his short-area explosiveness showed up in his other testing metrics. Vaki would be a great addition to this secondary if he falls into the fifth round.

Round 5, Pick 172: Joe Milton, QB, Tennessee

The Eagles lost backup quarterback Marcus Mariota in free agency, which does put them in the market for a backup this offseason. Tennessee’s Joe Milton is a fascinating prospect with one of the strongest arms to enter the league in recent memory.

Milton has untapped potential, but he also has issues with his accuracy and throwing with anticipation, which signals potential issues with processing information post-snap. Still, Milton could be a talented developmental quarterback to add to the roster to back up Hurts on Day 3.

Round 6, Pick 210: Tyrone Tracy Jr., RB, Purdue

The Eagles’ addition of Barkley certainly doesn’t make running back a big area of need on the roster heading into the draft, but an RB prospect like Tyrone Tracy Jr. out of Purdue could provide quality depth and a player who could contribute on all three downs in the NFL.

Tracy boasts a solid athletic profile and ideal versatility as a pass-catching option — converted from wide receiver to running back in college — and has plenty of upside as a complimentary rotational piece for the Eagles’ backfield.
