ESPN NFL Analyst Ryan Clark Rips Cowboys for Silent Free Agency – ‘The Most Disappointing Team Thus Far’

    Published on

The Dallas Cowboys have been virtually nonexistent since free agency began, and ESPN NFL analyst Ryan Clark let them have it for their inactivity.

The Dallas Cowboys have recently built a reputation for being risk-averse in free agency. A team that’s prided itself on drafting and signing its homegrown talent has continuously been on the sidelines for much of the free agent activity over the years. It’s a plan they believe in despite a 28-year Super Bowl drought and fans pleading to do otherwise.

However, as the league year opens up today, the Cowboys have been unusually quiet, even for their standards. The inactivity has been noteworthy, and it’s something that fans and media alike have been questioning over the last few days, including one NFL analyst who let them have it on Wednesday morning.

Since the legal tampering period has begun, the Cowboys have made one roster move, which was to re-sign long snapper Trent Sieg to a one-year deal. While teams around the league — especially those within the division — are making splash deals and trades looking to improve their roster, the Cowboys have essentially sat on the bench watching.

It’s a plan that has ESPN Ryan Clark fired up with disappointment, as he made his feelings known on the latest episode of ESPN’s Get Up.

“They’ve done nothing, and it’s more so not necessarily that the world wants to see it, it’s when listening to [Cowboys owner/general manager] Jerry Jones the world expected it,” Clark started.

“He’s (Micah Parsons) watching all of these things happen in the NFC East as people get better and the Dallas Cowboys are not…

“This isn’t a great roster. And to do nothing at this point to me is a problem, the most disappointing team thus far.”

Clark’s take on the matter isn’t a unique one. Many around the team, whether players or fans, have expressed the desire to see a more aggressive approach to roster development, with a large part of the untapped resource coming from free agency.

The Cowboys are applauded for their ability to draft well, but to not take advantage of free agency like every other team seems to, feels like a limiting move for no real reason.

Clark, much like many others, agrees this is a team with a good nucleus of talent. But the idea of sitting back and letting your adversaries get better while you stand back is head-scratching.

There is still a lot of time left between now and the draft for Dallas to improve its roster. However, while the rest of the league is seemingly running toward it, the Cowboys are barely out of the starting blocks.
