If you drafted Bijan Robinson in the first round of your fantasy football draft this past year, your season probably did not go as planned.
Despite being the No. 8 overall pick in the NFL Draft to the Atlanta Falcons after an impressive career with the Texas Longhorns, Robinson didn’t exactly live up to the big-time fantasy hype that surrounded him.
And he’s sorry for that.
Bijan Robinson Apologies to Fantasy Football Managers
In a funny video posted by Yahoo Fantasy Sports, Robinson reacted to mean social media posts from people who had him on their fantasy football roster.
“I’m sorry, bro,” Robinson said after reading a comment. “Next year is honestly going to be a great year.”
One fan even asked if there was a support group for fantasy managers who drafted Robinson so they could cry with the others.
“Yeah, I understand. I’m sorry. And I cried with you,” Robinson replied. “But we’re all good.”
While Robinson’s NFL rookie season might not have been a fantasy manager’s dream, he certainly wasn’t a complete bust, and there’s plenty of reason to be optimistic about the 22-year-old back.
Robinson played in all 17 games for the 7-10 Falcons, who finished in third place of the NFC South. He finished the season with 976 rushing yards, just under that coveted 1,000-yard mark, and also caught 58 passes for an additional 487 yards. He scored eight total touchdowns in his rookie year.
After the disappointing season, the Falcons fired head coach Arthur Smith, who couldn’t find consistent production out of Robinson, Kyle Pitts, or Drake London, three players who were drafted in the first round. Smith was replaced with Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, who served as the interim head coach for the Falcons in 2020.
Atlanta also landed Rams passing game coordinator Zac Robinson as their new offensive coordinator, who was highly coveted amongst teams with coordinator vacancies this past coaching cycle. Robinson’s presence should help Robinson’s production in this offense.
Atlanta’s top priority this offseason is likely finding their franchise quarterback, as Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke didn’t get the job done last season. They’ve tried acquiring big-time quarterbacks, like Deshaun Watson, via trade when he became available, and they could look to do the same thing this offseason with Justin Fields.
The offensive roster, highlighted by Robinson, London, and Pitts, is certainly ready to make a push now in a weak division.
Atlanta is again the proud owner of the No. 8 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, but it’s no guarantee that a top-tier QB with that selection. Regardless, any upgrade at quarterback should help Robinson not have to apologize to fantasy managers next year.
