As the calendar creeps ever so closer until the new league year begins on March 13, NFL teams are beginning to set themselves up for a free agency push and are clearing themselves of situations that no longer serve them. As a result, we’re seeing roster moves by organizations and players get released ahead of the big day.
The latest player reportedly set to be given their walking papers is wide receiver Michael Thomas, who is expected to be released by the New Orleans Saints. It’s a move that the wideout is not happy about, and took to social media to let the reporter who broke the news know his feelings about it.
Michael Thomas Rips Reporter Upon News of Release
Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com reports that the Saints will soon release Thomas and that it shouldn’t have ended this way. The final part rings more true than ever after Thomas’ reaction to the news.
Duncan states in his article, “The former All-Pro receiver is expected to be released at some point before the start of the league year, which begins next week on March 13. It’s not a matter of if the Saints move on, but when, according to multiple sources.”
Duncan goes on to explain that the relationship between the player and team was a rocky one stating, “Along the way, Thomas irked team officials with his frequently candid social media posts. Meanwhile, behind closed doors, he gained a reputation at the Saints facility as a moody and at-times difficult personality.”
However, upon this report becoming public, Thomas has since taken to social media to attack Duncan and his reporting. Thomas made it clear that he’s not happy about what is being reported.
Thomas posted, “Jeff Duncan is a h–. Trying to stay relevant so let’s speak on it. The Saints leak information to him to try to ruin players value but see I’m not broke so I can speak on it. He is broke so he need clicks. Go look at all his articles that never end up being true.”
Thomas is seemingly attacking Duncan’s character and credibility here with his post. These are bold claims from the wide receiver and is part of the bigger picture that Duncan pointed out in his article as reasons why New Orleans has decided to move on from him.

The move hasn’t been made official yet, so Thomas still has time to be correct. But as of right now, it looks as if the once-star wide receiver has played his final game in New Orleans and has decided to go scorched earth on his way out.
