Russell Wilson’s tumultuous time with the Denver Broncos has come to an unceremonious end. With the Broncos’ intention to cut the quarterback, it signals a turning of the page for both the player and team — and the ending of a working relationship that never looked to be on solid ground to begin with.
Sean Payton gets a fresh start at the QB position, and Wilson gets a chance to start anew somewhere where he may be wanted. While some feel like Wilson’s stock has never been lower, that doesn’t include everyone. At least one NFL personality still sees Wilson as a desirable free agent piece and for one particular reason.
Russell Wilson Still Attractive Option Says NFL Personality
At a time when it seems like the NFL world is ready to turn the page on the veteran quarterback, NFL personality Peter Schrager is saying, “not so fast.”
"I think he's actually an 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 free agent quarterback…"@PSchrags explains why Russell Wilson could be perfect for a team looking for a veteran QB pic.twitter.com/2PwKg1x5s6

“It’s one of those rare deals where we got now a veteran quarterback who has a Super Bowl victory, who’s got all the skins on the wall who might still have good football left in him…I think he’s actually an attractive free agent quarterback,” Schrager started.
“You’re talking about Baker Mayfield might want $40 million, talking Daniel Jones last year making $40 million from the Giants, Russell Wilson could play for $4 million, and I don’t know if production from Baker Mayfield is tenfold over what Russell is.
“You’re getting a 30-something-year-old Russell Wilson with a chip on his shoulder who is already paid by somebody else, I think it could be an attractive piece to a team…”
A lot of what Schrager is alluding to is that the Broncos are on the hook for Wilson’s salary, and the team that opts to bring him in would only need to pay him the veteran minimum to do so, setting up an intriguing dynamic for a team.
A team looking for a veteran QB who doesn’t want to allocate a ton of resources to the position, plus the fact Wilson is already getting paid regardless, could set up an interesting situation for him to be far more coveted around the league than many people may realize.

Where Wilson ends up next season remains to be seen, but to Schrager’s point, the veteran quarterback may not be viewed as such an afterthought as many had wrongfully assumed he would be after a tough time in Denver.
