Georgia offensive tackle Amarius Mims had a surprising 40-yard dash time at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, and it got the NFL world buzzing over the 2024 NFL Draft prospect.
Reactions to Amarius Mims’ 40-Yard Dash Time
Mims is being considered as a first-round NFL Draft prospect despite his limited college football experience.
The former five-star recruit measured in at 6’7 6/8″ and 340 pounds and is one of the most physically imposing players at the NFL Combine.
Mims, who primarily played right tackle during his career at Georgia, re-injured his ankle in the SEC Championship Game against Alabama after battling injuries during the regular season.
The giant offensive tackle ran a 5.07-second unofficial 40-yard dash time at the 2024 NFL Combine. Fans and members of the media were in awe of Mims’ size and athleticism.
At nearly 6'8" and 340 lbs, a 5.07u is insane. Wow, @amarius_mims 😳

Here are some of the reactions to Mims’ performance:
“Amarius Mims, o-lineman from U of Georgia, at nearly 6-8, 340 pounds with a VERY impressive 5.07 40 time. Big fella can move,” NFL analyst Jay Glazer posted on X, formerly Twitter.
“5.07u 40-yard dash for 340-pound Amarius Mims is freaky. The most fascinating OL prospect in this class,” NFL analyst Dane Brugler chimed in.
Plenty of fans were shocked by the prospect of his speed paired with his size.
“Imagine this guy running at you full speed on a screen block,” one user posted.

Mims also had an impressive 25.5″ vertical jump and a 9’3″ broad jump. And despite his massive size, Mims still posted the second-best short shuttle at his position, coming in with a 4.33-second time.
Supposedly, Mims did injure himself on his second 40-yard dash attempt.
“Georgia OT Amarius Mims just told me he’s dealing with a right hamstring injury. He doesn’t know how severe it is. He wants to continue testing and competing at the combine. But he’s got ice on the hamstring now,” NFL Network reporter Stacey Dales posted on X.
ESPN’s Jordan Reid reported that Mims plans to rehab his hamstring and be ready for Georgia’s Pro Day on March 13.
Mims did miss time during the 2024 season with multiple ankle injuries, one of which required tightrope surgery and forced him to miss six games.
Mims later left Georgia’s loss against Alabama with an ankle injury. The Georgia offensive tackle, who has only eight career starts, spoke about the frustration stemming from the Alabama game.

“It wasn’t my proudest game, honestly,” Mims said at the NFL Combine on Saturday. “I went down, I want to say, Play 12. I wish I could have finished the game with my guys. We fell up short, but like I said, if I could go back to that game, I wish I wouldn’t have got bumped up on my ankle again. But, like I said, if we were 100% healthy, it would have been a different outcome in that game, honestly.”
Mims was not the only former Bulldog to work out on Sunday, as center Sedrick Van Pran-Granger also participated in drills. Van Pran-Granger ran an unofficial 5.20-second 40-yard dash and measured in at 6’4 1/8″ and 298 pounds.
