Missouri Tigers running back Cody Schrader got some bad news while at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine as he will miss the rest of the testing after getting injured on Saturday. What does the injury mean for the running back’s draft stock?
Cody Schrader’s Injury Impact on NFL Draft Stock
NFL reporter Stacy Dales reported on NFL Network’s broadcast on Saturday that while Schrader was running the 40-yard dash he injured his hamstring, which will leave him out for the rest of the NFL Combine.
“I just spoke to a very disappointed Missouri running back Cody Schrader; he just told me he did something to his right hamstring after that last [40-yard dash] run. He is finished for the day, and he wanted to come here and try to prove he was the best back in the [NFL Draft]. That is what he told me this week. An unfortunate day for him.”
Schrader is coming off the best season of his career with the Tigers last year, rushing for 1,627 yards and 14 touchdowns. His performance earned him a first-team All-SEC selection and a Consensus All-American selection.
Going into the NFL offseason, Schrader was considered to be a Day 3 selection in the NFL Draft. His toughness, patience to find the open holes, and ability to lower his shoulders have been strengths. The biggest concern for him was his speed.
That’s why the 40-yard dash was an important drill for Schrader. He ran an unofficial 4.61-second 40-yard dash. He also tested with an unofficial 1.61-second 10-yard split and a vertical jump of 33 inches.
His next chance to show off his skills will be at Missouri’s Pro Day, which now could be in jeopardy depending on the severity of the hamstring injury. If he isn’t healed up by then, it may be individual workouts with teams that would be his only other option before the NFL Draft.
One question is how this injury will impact his draft stock. He has been projected as a Day 3 pick, so unless he can get to Missouri’s Pro Day, it could stay the same. The hope was his workouts at the NFL Combine would move up his stock, but he could be staying put in the Day 3 range.
