Fans of the National Football League who are obsessive watchers of the NFL Combine are most likely familiar with his name. NFL Network writer and analyst Daniel Jeremiah wears many hats around draft time. He’s a former scout who played college football and provides draft coverage to the masses.
Here are some tidbits about the longtime NFL analyst.
Daniel Jeremiah’s Upbringing and Early Life
Jeremiah, who was born in Fort Wayne and grew up in San Diego, is the son of pastor David Jeremiah of Turning Point Radio and Television Ministries. The elder Jeremiah founded the Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne in 1969 and the Blackhawk Christian School in 1973, along with creating the mass-televised show “The Bible Hour.”
The younger Jeremiah moved to San Diego when the elder of the family became the senior pastor at Scott Memorial Baptist Church.
Jeremiah transferred from Northeastern Louisiana to Appalachian State following the 1997 college football season. While Jeremiah played quarterback at Appalachian State from 1998-2000, he mainly deployed as a runner.
The former Mountaineer had 79 carries for 498 yards on the ground, averaging 6.3 yards per carry in 2000. Jeremiah also went 55 for 91 on passes with a 60.4% completion rate for 618 passing yards, seven touchdown passes, and three interceptions that season.
Jeremiah’s Career Working in the NFL
Jeremiah’s football career was far from over. He began as a personnel assistant with the Baltimore Ravens in 2003 and moved on to become the team’s West Coast scout in 2005.
While with the Ravens, Jeremiah was a part of the team’s 20/20 club — staffers who were in their 20s who had a salary range of $20,000.
The group included newly hired Los Angeles Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz and current Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta, who worked under former Baltimore GM and Hall of Fame tight end Ozzie Newsome.
“That was my scouting education was for two years sitting in those meetings and watching tape with those guys, listening to what they saw,” he said to The Athletic.
Jeremiah then served as the Cleveland Browns national scout from 2007-2008. He ended his career on the personnel side with the Philadelphia Eagles as the team’s West Coast scout from 2010-2012.
