NFL Report Card: 49ers Grade as League’s Sixth-Best Franchise by NFLPA

    Published on

Spoken by the players in the NFLPA's annual report card survey, the San Francisco 49ers came in as the sixth-best franchise out of 32 teams.

Since the hiring of head coach Kyle Shanahan in 2017, the San Francisco 49ers have seen plenty of success on the football field, including trips to the Super Bowl in 2019 and 2023.

In the NFLPA’s annual player survey on overall working conditions for each of the 32 NFL teams, the 49ers came in as the sixth-best franchise and finished at the top in several categories, as well.

Announced Wednesday, the NFLPA had the 49ers ranked sixth overall in their annual player survey.

“The positives for the team start at the top of the organization, with the players giving high marks to the ownership group led by CEO Jed York along with head coach Kyle Shanahan,” said the NFLPA.

Players on the team who responded to the survey gave San Francisco a great review in terms of the treatment of families and the food program, too.

The 49ers offer a family room at Levi’s Stadium — the official home of the organization — and daycare is provided on game days if the family of a specific player elects to bring a young child with them.

According to the NFLPA, the team’s training room needs to be addressed moving forward, saying, “The room itself is small with a limited number of treatment tables.”

“Also, the hot/cold tubs are very small, which limits the players’ ability to comfortably use them to either warm up or recover.”

Below are the 49ers’ grades and official rankings for each of the 11 categories, as voted upon by members of the team:

    • Treatment of Families: A- (second)
    • Food/Cafeteria: A- (third)
    • Nutritionist/Dietician: B+ (eighth)
    • Locker Room: B+ (seventh)
    • Training Room: C (24th)
    • Training Staff: B- (21st)
    • Weight Room: B+ (11th)
    • Strength Coaches: B+ (16th)
    • Team Travel: C+ (13th)
    • Head Coach: A (seventh)
    • Ownership: A- (10th)

With the NFL new league year set to kick off on March 13 at 4 p.m. ET, these particular rankings have a high possibility of factoring into play when a player on the open market is making a decision as to his next destination.

With every player’s ultimate goal in the league being winning a Super Bowl, the 49ers (trips in two of the past five years) are still an eye-popping organization for many.

    Among the report card’s findings:

    • 93% of players on the team feel like the locker room is large enough.
    • Many players feel like the training room is “too small,” making it somewhat challenging in what they are able to do.
    • 91% of players feel the head coach is efficient with their time.
    • The players feel that Kyle Shanahan is “very” willing to listen to the locker room.
    • Club CEO Jed York receives a rating of 9.1/10 from 49ers players when adding his “willingness” to invest into the team facilities.
