Chris Simms Calls Josh Allen ‘The Most Talented Quarterback in the History of Football’

Josh Allen is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. However, to Chris Simms, he's the most talented quarterback of all time.

The NFL is the NFL for a reason — there’s no better football product than the league with the best players. However, even amongst the best, some are just better. That includes Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who was in the MVP conversation in 2023.

According to Chris Simms, a former NFL quarterback and current analyst, Josh Allen is one of the best he’s ever seen. What did Simms have to say at the NFL Combine about the Bills quarterback?

Chris Simms Touts Josh Allen as the Most Talented Quarterback in History

Allen grew up in Firebaugh, California, on a 3,000-acre cotton farm. He eventually attended Wyoming for college from 2015-2018, where he started his legacy. In his college career, he passed for 5,066 yards, 44 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions. He also ran the ball 237 times for 767 yards and 12 touchdowns.

At the NFL Combine in 2018, Allen measured in at 6’4 7/8″ and 237 pounds. He also ran a 4.75-second 40-yard dash with 1.59 and 2.74-second 10- and 20-yard splits, respectively. His 20-yard shuttle was 4.4 seconds, and his three-cone drill was 6.9 seconds. He also added a 33.5-inch vertical jump and a 9’11” broad jump.

Allen was drafted seventh overall by the Bills in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He’s since been named a two-time Pro Bowler and one-time second-team All-Pro. He’s passed for 22,703 yards, 167 touchdowns, and 78 interceptions over his NFL career. He also has 3,611 yards and 53 touchdowns on the ground.

“No, it’s not closed,” said Simms when asked about the Bills championship window. “Listen, when you have a quarterback of that talent, with Josh Allen, where, I don’t say this lightly, it is arguably the most talented quarterback in the history of football, the window is never really closed.”

“Now, how wide open is it? Is it a crack, is it a big gap, whatever, okay that’s debatable, sure,” said Simms. “I still think there’s a lot of pieces there for you guys to be very relevant and in the big picture of things.”

Simms played in the NFL from 2003-2010 as a quarterback. He spent the majority of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he also played for the Tennessee Titans and Denver Broncos. He was a coaching assistant for the New England Patriots in 2012 after retiring in 2010.

He left Bleacher Report in 2019 to become a full-time employee of NBC, working as an analyst for Football Night in America, Notre Dame football, and as a co-host of ProFootballTalk Live. He’s also a co-host of Peacock’s Sunday Night Football show.
