To say the New York Giants‘ passing attack was pretty underwhelming in 2023 is probably a big understatement. To say it had a profound impact on the lack of production we saw from WR Jalin Hyatt during his rookie season is probably pretty accurate.
How should dynasty fantasy football shareholders value Hyatt heading into the 2024 season after a disappointing rookie campaign?
Jalin Hyatt’s Dynasty Outlook
Dynasty managers who invested early draft capital into Hyatt during last year’s rookie draft probably expected he would be among the league leaders in stats like yards per reception and air yards per reception.

Dynasty managers also probably feared Hyatt’s numbers could be modest in a middling Giants passing attack as a rookie, but they probably didn’t expect it to be this bad.
Hyatt finished his first NFL season with just 23 receptions in 17 games for 373 yards and no scores. The constant changes at quarterback, an injury to Saquon Barkley early in the season, and a natural learning curve at the WR position coming from a unique system at the University of Tennessee all contributed to a lackluster rookie year.
Despite all of New York’s passing-game issues in 2023, Hyatt did manage to top 70 yards receiving on three occasions, which included a 109-yard outing on five receptions against the New England Patriots in Week 12.
Looking forward, Hyatt still has a chance to establish himself as the Giants’ top pass-catching option. The competition of Darius Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Darren Waller all don’t demand an alpha-target share, which leaves the door open for the talented Hyatt to potentially see an expanded role in 2024.

Should You Trade Hyatt in Dynasty?

To say it’s a little difficult to get a real evaluation on anyone out of the Giants’ offense in 2023 is probably a course of action, but Hyatt’s WR98 finish when playing a full 17-game season is something that is on his fantasy résumé.
QB Daniel Jones getting hurt pretty early in the year didn’t help matters because it forced Tyrod Taylor and Tommy DeVito into starting action.
The thing that doesn’t provide much optimism for Hyatt is the fact Jones signed a multi-year extension last offseason, which means he’s highly likely to be penciled in as the starting quarterback for 2024.
Jones has never produced a top-30 fantasy WR during his years as the Giants’ starting QB, which has been five years for those of you keeping count at home. Things can change when it comes to the talent level of pass catchers, but that’s a pretty lengthy sample size that suggests the passing game just hasn’t been a very productive unit during Jones’ tenure under center.
Hyatt is a very capable vertical threat and could produce in the right situation. However, it may be a bit hard to sell that to another dynasty manager you’re trying to sell him to in return for assets.

I would be willing to trade Hyatt off of my squad because it may allow me to get out of this Giants’ passing attack, but I’m still holding him until I get the type of price I paid for last rookie draft (second-round pick).
If another manager is unwilling to pay that price, then I’m not just going to give Hyatt away in a panic sell when he still has plenty of talent. And as a player, it’s far too early to give up on him.
