Andy Reid has become one of the winningest head coaches in NFL history. He began his coaching career with the Green Bay Packers in 1992 before joining the Philadelphia Eagles in 1999. Reid gained widespread recognition during his tenure as head coach of the Eagles, leading the team to multiple playoff appearances and a Super Bowl.
However, he solidified himself as one of the greatest coaches of all time with his dynastic run as head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. Reid has led Patrick Mahomes and Co. to three Super Bowl victories and counting. Reid is in the midst of a legendary career, and his wife, Tammy, has been by his side every step of the way.
Who Is Tammy Reid, and How Did The Couple Meet?
Tammy and Andy have been together since they first met on campus at Brigham Young University in 1980. The future NFL head coach was so enamored with Tammy that he officially converted to the Mormon faith.
Tammy was born in New York City on Nov. 6, 1959. She grew up in Tennessee and Arizona. She comes from a tight-knit family and was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She went to BYU to study physical education and hit it off with Andy immediately.
The couple bonded over their love of sports and even took a tennis class together on campus. Tammy made the first move, proposing a racquetball date.
The couple got married in 1981 after just one year of dating. Now, all of these years later, Andy and Tammy are still in love.
“Every day is a special day, I’m telling ya. I call her my girlfriend for that reason,” Andy said. “You never lose interest if you do that, right, you guys out there? Call them your girlfriend, and you always do special things for them.”

Tammy is Andy’s biggest supporter, and she has the ultimate confidence in her husband.
“Maybe people don’t know this about me but I’m a very positive person, and I have the ultimate trust in Andrew as a coach,” Tammy explained in a Chiefs profile of Andy. “We’ve been through 38 years of coaching, and so I never don’t think we’re going to win.”
The Reid Family Bond Is Strong, Even After Tragedy
The Reids have a strong relationship that has spanned four decades. Over time, their family grew to seven, as they had three sons and two daughters.
Tragically, their oldest son, Garrett, died of a heroin overdose in 2012.
When Andy won his first Super Bowl with the Chiefs in 2020, Tammy said that she knew Garrett was always watching over them.
Tammy often refers to Andy as a family man whose time with his children and grandchildren is very important to him.
Tammy’s Off-Field Endeavors
In addition to her role as a mother and supportive wife, Tammy is an advocate for those who have dealt with domestic violence and abuse.
Tammy has volunteered with multiple women’s organizations and worked with youth groups through her church.
She has done this for years, working with the Laurel House in Philadelphia during Andy’s tenure as the Eagles’ head coach. She even joined the organization’s advisory board.
Outside of her work with Laurel House, Tammy founded the Eagles’ Women’s Association to help encourage the partners of NFL coaches and players to become more involved in the community.
