Philadelphia Eagles EDGE rusher Haason Reddick was one of the few bright spots on a very disappointing defensive unit this season, as he led the team with 11 sacks. After two very productive campaigns with the Eagles since signing as a free agent in 2022, it now appears Reddick’s future in Philadelphia could be in serious jeopardy.
Eagles Give Haason Reddick Permission To Seek a Trade
This time last year, Reddick and the Eagles were competing in Super Bowl 57 against the Kansas City Chiefs. One year later, on the morning of Super Bowl Sunday, it appears that Reddick and the Eagles may be headed for a divorce.

Since signing a three-year, $45 million contract with the Eagles in 2022 free agency, Reddick has been one of the most productive pass rushers in the NFL, with 27 combined sacks in two seasons. Reddick, however, has become one of the most underpaid players at his position, and with one year left on his deal, he is hoping to get a pay raise sooner rather than later.

When asked last season about his contract situation, Reddick was very vocal to members of the media:
“Y’all see it, y’all know what’s going on. I’m worried about being the best version of myself, and then everything will sort itself out, truly.”
What Will Happen With Haason Reddick?
The Eagles were in a similar spot with Darius Slay last offseason, who ultimately returned to the team after he was given permission to seek a trade and then eventually hit the open market in free agency as well.
While this could just be a repeat of the Slay situation, Reddick is four years younger and is still in the prime of his career at a premium position, so he could be in great demand around the league.
But having said that, Reddick’s trade value could be diminished by the fact that there are plenty of high-level pass rushers available in free agency, which wouldn’t require giving up premium draft capital.
One underrated aspect of this situation with Haason Reddick is the caliber of edge rushers that will be available next month in free agency.

The Eagles find themselves in a difficult situation because Reddick has been their best pass rusher the last two seasons, but they have other core players on the team that are due for new contracts this season as well, including DeVonta Smith and Landon Dickerson, both of which are much younger.

If the Eagles and Reddick end up parting ways, that would leave Philadelphia with a gaping hole at EDGE both for 2024 and beyond. While they drafted EDGE Nolan Smith with the 30th pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, their other top pass rusher, Josh Sweat, is also entering the final year of his deal.
Haason Reddick Wants to Stay in Philadelphia?
On Tuesday afternoon, NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reported that he spoke with Reddick, who told him he wants to stay in Philadelphia and doesn’t want to be traded.

Reddick then followed up on X (formerly known as Twitter), reiterating that he never asked for a trade, but understands that it’s a business and that he is “preparing for whatever is next.”

While Reddick wants to stay in Philadelphia, he appears unhappy with his contract situation and would like an extension rather than playing out the final year of his deal. This will be a situation worth monitoring as we approach free agency.
