In this episode of the Fantasy Force podcast, hosts Andrew, Corey, and Tommy discuss the dynasty impact through the first three rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft. While we are all focused on our favorite NFL teams, our dynasty leagues are impacted just as much. Here out hosts go over some of their key takeaways and attempt to rank the top five running backs with their landing spots.
Who is the top wide receiver in dynasty drafts?
Deciding who will be the first wide receiver off the board will be a hotly debated topic as we progress into our rookie drafts. Ceedee Lamb falls to the Dallas Cowboys, who have one of the best trios at the position in all of the NFL. Drew Lock becomes one of the best late-round quarterbacks thanks to the selection of Jerry Jeudy and later on K.J. Hamler. Also, the speedster Henry Ruggs III was selected as the top receiver off the board by the Las Vegas Raiders.
Deciding who will be the first overall if you have the chance in a rookie draft will be a difficult decision. Ruggs lands in a spot where he is now the WR1 for the Raiders. Both Lamb and Jeudy have to be concerned about target shares with established elite pass-catchers on their team but offer a more well-rounded skill set. Who ends up as the top wide receiver is a conversation we will be discussing hotly for quite some time.
Did running back landing spots hurt the overall depth of the class?
Day two of the 2020 NFL draft gave us answers to the majority of the running backs heading into rookie draft season. Incoming prospects saw their value vault up while others are now on the outside looking in.
The discussion for the top running back in the class became an interesting topic after the Kansas City Chiefs selected LSU RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire at pick 32. Edwards-Helaire pops off the film anytime you watch the tape and goes to the defending Super Bowl champions and gets Andy Reid to scheme situations for him. However, Jonathan Taylor, who is a more complete back, gets selected by Indianapolis. While he does have to worry about Marlon Mack for 2020, Mack is in the final year of his contract and is behind a top offensive line in the NFL.
After them, the decisions become more difficult. Cam Akers of Florida State is now a Los Angeles Ram, J.K. Dobbins is a Baltimore Raven, and lastly, D’Andre Swift was selected by the Detroit Lions at pick 35 overall.
All three of the running backs mentioned above can be their teams’ top option, but all have competition. Past them, choices become more convoluted, and our hosts debate who they like and who took a hit due to their landing spot.
