The Super Bowl comes and goes every year, with a new team winning the illustrious Vince Lombardi Trophy. This year, either the Kansas City Chiefs or San Francisco 49ers will be awarded the trophy by Hall of Famer Larry Csonka.
Considering how difficult it is to win and how coveted it is, the Lombardi is a special award. How much does it weigh?
What Is the Weight of the Lombardi Trophy?
The Lombardi Trophy is made entirely out of sterling silver. It’s made every year by Tiffany & Co., which produces it in Cumberland, Rhode Island. It consists of a regulation-sized football mounted in a kicking position on top of a pyramid.
The trophy is 20.75 inches tall, which is just under two feet. Additionally, it weighs 107.3 ounces or just under seven pounds. However, despite its perception, the trophy is less dense than water, meaning it can float.
Randy Moss with NFL on ESPN proved in 2021 that the trophy does indeed float. This was notable due to what happened with Tom Brady in the Super Bowl parade following Super Bowl LV. Brady tossed the Lombardi Trophy from one boat to another in an act that left many worried the trophy could be lost.

The first Super Bowl was won by the Green Bay Packers over the Chiefs in Super Bowl I. The trophy was inscribed “World Professional Football Championship”. However, after Packers head coach Vince Lombardi passed away in 1970, the trophy was renamed in his memory.
Going into Super Bowl 58, 20 (11 NFC, 9 AFC) teams have won a Super Bowl, 12 (7 AFC, 5 NFC) have never won one, and 15 (8 AFC, 7 NFC) have won multiple. The Chiefs are the most recent winner and have won three in franchise history.
