For the final month of the 2023 season, the Las Vegas Raiders were doing the same thing that fantasy football managers were doing: evaluating Zamir White’s dynasty value. Josh Jacobs‘ role is available with the veteran now a Green Bay Packer, and White is the clear beneficiary from that occurrence, but simply walking into high volume doesn’t make someone an asset.
Is White ready to take a big step forward and provide consistent production?
Zamir White’s Dynasty Outlook
Any 25-year-old running back who has seemingly been identified as a lead back by his franchise deserves to be on your dynasty radar. Your goal at the RB position is to cycle through options on an annual basis until you capture strong role upside, something that it appears White is positioned to have in 2024.

Will he thrive this season in a Raiders offense that struggles with consistency? It’s not clear, but he showed us more than enough down the stretch of 2023 to be ranked optimistically ahead of his first featured season.
As a rookie, White was hardly used (17 touches) while Jacobs produced an elite season. He saw slightly more work during the early stages of his second season, but the true evaluation process came in the final month when it became clear that Jacobs’ season was over and that the Raiders were essentially holding a four-game trial run to see what they had in the former fourth-round pick out of Georgia.
He didn’t disappoint.
White handled a bell-cow workload (21.0 carries and 3.3 targets per game), and while he only scored once, there’s a number you’ll find when digging a little deeper that will have you encouraged about his trajectory.
Over those four games, he averaged 3.43 yards per carry after first contact. We are obviously working with a small sample size here, but that’s all we have when it comes to White in what we believe will be his role to kick off 2024. That yards-after-contact number would have ranked third in the NFL if extended for the entire season, slotting him just above some names you might recognize…
- Christian McCaffrey (3.42)
- Breece Hall (3.41)
- Raheem Mostert (3.40)
- Kyren Williams (3.34)
- Derrick Henry (3.32)
He’s pretty clearly not in that tier of fantasy asset, but that tough-nosed running style can rack up fantasy points when given high-end volume, and if the final month of 2023 is a sign of things to come, White is going to have his chance to deliver RB2 numbers sooner than later.

Should You Trade White in Dynasty?

When attempting to build out your dynasty backfield, you’re looking for talent, versatility, and opportunity. White figures to check the opportunity box (Alexander Mattison signed with the team this offseason, but he’s been held under 4.0 yards per carry in three consecutive seasons and has shown incapable of leading an explosive backfield), and what we’ve seen from him suggests that the talent is there for him to produce.
My concern is the lack of versatility. At Georgia, he averaged 22.5 carries per reception, and while we saw some flashes of growth last season with a pair of 4+ target games during that expanded role portion of his campaign, we need more evidence of consistency in that regard before pushing all of the chips into the middle of the table on White.
In 2023, David Montgomery was the only running back to finish inside the top 30 in half-PPR points per game that averaged under 2.0 targets per game.
Managers are hoping that White can emerge as an RB2 as soon as 2024, and those running backs (that is, backs that finished the season ranked as RB13-24) averaged 4.1 targets per game.
I am hopeful that White can grow into such a role. If he can, my ranking might be too low, given his clear path to consistent volume. There’s no reason to consider moving White at this moment — even if you’re skeptical, his current price doesn’t fully price in his projected 2024 role.

If you have White, this is the moment you’ve been waiting for. If you want to sell him after a hot start to a win-now team, we can have that discussion in September — for now, you owe it to yourself to wait through the offseason and take advantage of the bell-cow role that is set to be yours. There simply aren’t many roles like that available in today’s NFL.
