We have reached Super Bowl 58, with the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs playing for the championship. It’s CBS’ turn in the Super Bowl rotation to broadcast the game.

As you would expect, CBS is going all out with an expanded pregame show, additional reporters for the game, and an alternate broadcast for kids on Nickelodeon.

What Time Does CBS Coverage Start?

CBS starts coverage at 2 p.m. ET with The NFL Today; kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET. Host James Brown, along with analysts Phil Simms, Bill Cowher, Boomer Esiason, and Nate Burleson. Five-time All-Pro defensive end J.J. Watt will make another appearance on the main set in his first season of retirement. NFL Insider Jonathan Jones will join the show to provide updates from around the league.

CBS will also have Ian Eagle, Charles Davis, Matt Ryan, and Jason McCourty provide additional commentary before kickoff. NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt will be one of several special guests CBS will have during the pregame show.

Who Are the Game Announcers for 49ers-Chiefs?

The lead CBS crew of Jim Nantz, Tony Romo, and Tracy Wolfson will be calling their third Super Bowl together. This will be the third straight Chiefs game this crew has covered.

CBS is adding Evan Washburn as a second sideline reporter with Jay Feely, who will be on the sidelines to provide kicking analysis. Former NFL and NCAA basketball official Gene Steratore is the rules analyst for the broadcast.

Nantz will be calling his seventh Super Bowl as a play-by-play announcer. He has been the lead play-by-play announcer for the NFL on CBS since 2004, after being the network’s NFL studio host for six seasons. Last spring, Nantz called his final NCAA men’s basketball tournament after being the lead announcer for March Madness since 1991.

He has also been the host of the Masters since 1988 and will continue to host the legendary tournament this April. Nantz started at CBS as the studio host for college football from 1985 to 1988.

Before taking on the role, Wolfson was on the sidelines for the CBS SEC Game of the Week for 10 years. She has been the lead sideline reporter for the Final Four since the 2008 season.

Steratore joined CBS in 2018 after 15 years as an NFL game official and 22 years as an NCAA Division I basketball official. He was a referee for 13 of his 15 NFL seasons and his final game as a referee was Super Bowl LII. Steratore also served as the alternate referee for Super Bowl XLIV.

Steratore, who is also a rules analyst for CBS college basketball, officiated 12 NCAA Tournament games along with several conference tournaments.

Feely started providing kicking analysis for CBS playoff games in 2015 and became a game analyst the following regular season. He was a kicker for 14 seasons with six teams in the NFL, from 2001 to 2014.

Washburn, who joined CBS in 2014, is a sideline reporter for NFL and college basketball games as well as a lacrosse analyst. This is his fourth Super Bowl as a sideline reporter for CBS.

    Nickelodeon’s Super Bowl Coverage

SpongeBob SquarePants (voiced by Tom Kenny) and Patrick Star (voiced by Bill Fagerbakke) will be calling the action of Super Bowl LVIII live from Bikini Bottom on Nickelodeon’s alternate broadcast with Noah Eagle and Nate Burleson.

Advanced augmented reality and enhanced graphics will be featured during the broadcast, including bringing the historic Slime-filled telecast to SpongeBob SquarePants’ undersea home.

Nickelodeon has had alternate broadcasts for NFL regular season and playoff games in the past. On Christmas Day, the network broadcast the Las Vegas Raiders and Chiefs with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Raphael (voiced by Brady Noon) joining Eagle and Burleson in the AR booth.
