Top QBs To Draft in Best Ball Leagues
Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis Colts
Drafting Anthony Richardson as a top-12 QB is admittedly a bit risky. After all, we’ve only seen him play four professional football games, and he managed to get hurt in three of them.
Richardson’s play style certainly lends itself to big hits. While he will undoubtedly be asked to protect himself going forward, that only goes so far. Richardson’s mobility is what makes him great. If you take that away, then he’s not Anthony Richardson anymore.
With that said, the NFL has a bunch of mobile QBs. Largely, they find ways to avoid getting hurt every week. I’m reasonably confident Richardson can figure out how to stay on the field.
It may only be a four-game sample size, but I really liked what I saw when he was able to stay in the game. Richardson scored 21.9, 17.7, and 29.6 fantasy points, respectively, in his first three games. Unfortunately, early in his fourth start, he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury.

Extrapolating based on three games is admittedly not the best process, but Richardson was tracking to finish as an elite QB1 as a rookie. Now in his sophomore season, he doesn’t yet have a ton of experience, but Richardson does have a full year with an NFL team.
Richardson ran for 43.6 yards per game in his first three starts and four total touchdowns. His upside is better Cam Newton.
There are several good quarterbacks for fantasy. It didn’t seem that way last year because so many got injured, but assuming everyone is healthy entering the 2024 season, guys like Richardson are going to get pushed down draft boards.
When that happens, scoop up your elite QB1 at a mid-to-low QB1 price.
Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals
You may be sensing a trend with the quarterbacks I want to target. Guys with elite rushing upside — It’s not a coincidence.
Before there was Richardson, there was Kyler Murray. Yet, it seems like Murray is being forgotten a bit. Or, at least, the fantasy community is forgetting how good he was before he tore his ACL.
In his career, Murray has never averaged fewer than 18.2 fantasy points per game. Over his first four seasons, he finished as the QB11, QB3, QB4, and QB7, respectively.
Even after returning from his ACL tear, Murray didn’t really miss a beat. He averaged 18.9 fantasy ppg in half a season last year. Had he been able to play at the same level for the entire year, he would’ve been the overall QB8.
Now another year removed from his injury, Murray, who didn’t really look tentative at all last season, will have even more confidence in his knee. The Cardinals are likely to add a receiver, either via the draft or free agency, which will only help Murray be more effective.
Early Best Ball drafters should jump at the opportunity to draft a guy who has never not been a QB1 going outside the top 12 quarterbacks.
Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers
So…Jordan Love, in his first year as a starter, goes out and averages 19.4 fantasy points per game, finishing as the overall QB5. Yet, he’s being drafted outside the top 12 QBs? I just want to make sure I’m understanding this correctly.
Now, to be fair, I’m not criticizing Love’s ADP. There are many good fantasy quarterbacks when everyone is healthy. And when looking at the guys going ahead of Love, they all make sense. But that’s exactly what makes Love so desirable in Best Ball drafts.
I’m not sure who Love is going to outscore that is currently going ahead of him, but I’m confident there will be guys.
As a first-year starter, Love showcased impressive skills. He was third in the league in deep-ball attempts, showing a willingness to push the ball downfield.
He threw 32 touchdowns and made plays on the run. By all accounts, Love looked poised and far more polished than he should have. I completely buy him as the Green Bay Packers’ next great QB.
With just enough mobility to thrive in the modern NFL, Love has already proven he can be a fantasy force, despite throwing to four wide receivers who were all rookies or sophomores.

Those guys will also be better overall this season. Green Bay’s offense, which was already good, should be better.
There’s just so much to like about Love. Yet, given the depth of the position, he falls outside the top 12 QBs, which shapes him up to be a tremendous value once again in 2024.
