Andy Reid has accomplished quite a bit throughout his decorated coaching career, most recently finding plenty of success partnered with Patrick Mahomes to lead the way for the Kansas City Chiefs‘ pair of recent Super Bowl championships. That begs the question … just how much postseason success has Reid seen across his career?
Andy Reid’s Historic Playoff Success
Reid has found his way deep into the playoffs on several occasions, including two Super Bowl wins in the last four seasons with Kansas City. However, he hasn’t always been a regular in the league’s championship game.
The legendary coach struggled to break through for a deep run early in his career after starting as the Philadelphia Eagles’ head coach in 1999. His teams reached three consecutive NFC Championship Games from 2001 through 2003 but could not break through for a Super Bowl appearance with losses to the then-St. Louis Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Carolina Panthers.
However, Reid’s squad finally broke through in the 2004 season, beating the Atlanta Falcons 27-10 in the NFC Championship Game for the coach’s first-ever Super Bowl appearance. The Eagles ultimately fell 24-21 to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 39, but Reid tasted the league’s biggest game.
Philadelphia struggled to find those heights again in the following years, reaching one more conference title game in the 2008 season before falling 32-25 to the Arizona Cardinals.
Reid’s time with the Eagles ended a few years later, as he took over as the Chiefs’ head man in 2013.
Success did not come instantly, but with time, he built Kansas City up to the point of making its first conference title game under his tutelage in 2018. The Chiefs suffered a 37-31 loss there to the New England Patriots, but he used that failure as motivation for the next season as they broke through to win Super Bowl 54.

Kansas City then fell, 31-9, to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl 55 the next season before dropping the 2021 season’s AFC Championship Game to the Cincinnati Bengals. One last breakthrough came last season, as the Chiefs took home a 38-35 win over Reid’s former team, the Eagles, in Super Bowl 57.
Those successes have left Reid with four Super Bowl appearances and two titles to his name, alongside a total of now 11 trips to either conference’s title game after reaching this year’s AFC Championship.
Reid has a chance to reach his fifth Super Bowl with a win Sunday over the Baltimore Ravens, which finished the regular season with the league’s best record and have been one of the favorites to lift the Lombardi Trophy throughout the year.
Knocking off the Ravens to reach the big game once more would be just the latest chapter in Reid’s storied career.
