Did Travis Kelceā€™s Brother Jason Retire? Explaining the Rumors Around the Eagles’ Center

Jason Kelce was emotional at the end of the Philadelphia Eagles' season-ending loss against the Buccaneers. Has he played the final game of his career?

The Kelce brothers have been a huge storyline in the NFL over the last year. Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs defeated Jason Kelce’s Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl last season. They have been in commercials together, Amazon Prime did a documentary on the brothers, their weekly podcast is consistently talked about, and of course, Travis’ relationship with Taylor Swift.

Both brothers appear to be headed to Canton, Ohio, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame after they retire. Jason was emotional on the sidelines at the end of the Eagles’ loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Wild Card round. Is he retiring?

    Is Jason Kelce Retiring?

There was speculation that the emotion Kelce showed on the sidelines at the end of the Eagles’ last game meant that he had played the final game of his career.

Jason Kelce will turn 37 years old next November. After the playoff loss, Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said, “He’s special, and I love him. He’s one of the most special guys I’ve been around. He’s always got a place here.”

On Tuesday, ESPN reported that Kelce told his teammates after the game that he was retiring. On Wednesday, however, on the Kelce brothers’ podcast, New Heights, Jason said he did not tell his teammates that he was retiring, but he did address the team.

Kelce said, “I just want to make sure everybody knows how much I love and respect and appreciate the effort and energy they put into the year. I know the outcome, Philadelphia, was not acceptable, but I love each and every person in that room.”

Kelce added, ā€œI just donā€™t think youā€™re in the position after a game like that to really make that decision; I just donā€™t. Thereā€™s too much emotion in the moment; thereā€™s too much going down in the moment to really fully grasp that decision.ā€

Travis said on Friday, “Itā€™s been cool to see everyone appreciate who heā€™s been over the years this past week. I think the big guyā€™s still got some football left if he wants it.ā€

In the 2011 NFL Draft, the Eagles used a fifth-round pick to take Kelce. He would become the foundation of their offensive line for the next 13 seasons.

Kelce has started the last 167 regular season and playoff games the Eagles have played. He has been named to seven Pro Bowls and earned first-team All-Pro honors six times in his 13-year career.

Despite the Eagles’ loss to the Chiefs last year in the Super Bowl, Kelce and the team did previously win the big game in 2017 against the New England Patriots.
