Pro Football Network’s NFL Awards 2023: Is Miami Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill OPOY?

    Published on

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill had the best statistical season of his career, and as a result, he's PFN's Offensive Player of the Year, as named by PFN's NFL Analyst Dallas Robinson.

Don’t let the disappointing end to the Miami Dolphins‘ regular season obscure what was a record-setting season by their all-world receiver Tyreek Hill.

Hill in 2023 broke the franchise record for receiving yards (1,799) and became the first Dolphins player to lead the league in that statistical category. Hill’s 3.85 yards per route run broke the league’s modern record — and he did all that in just 16 games.

As a result, Hill is the 2023 Offensive Player of the Year, as named by PFN’s NFL Analyst, Dallas Robinson.

More figures, courtesy of the Dolphins, that illustrate just how special of a year Hill had:

Hill tied his own franchise record with 119 catches, and his 717 as a pro are the fourth-most ever by a receiver through their first eight NFL seasons.

“There’s nothing better in really all walks of life than watching people get rewarded for hard work,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said after Hill was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month.

“Everybody knows that Tyreek is fast, and he’s a freak athlete in that way. But the only way you’re a player of the month is it takes an inordinate amount of focus, of dependability.

“There’s just so many hours of work to be able to perform at that level when every team you play knows you’re trying to get the ball to him.”

Hill of course was also a selection for PFN’s All-Pro first team — the only Dolphins player to make the list.

However, one of his teammates made second-team All-Pro: Running back Raheem Mostert, who led the NFL in rushing touchdowns (18) tied Christian McCaffrey for the league lead in touchdowns (21) despite missing the last two games of the season.

Both of those touchdown figures also set franchise records.

Even with the ankle injury that forced him to miss time, Mostert at age 31 had a dream season. He was a Pro Bowler for the first time and set single-season personal records in rushing attempts (209) and rushing yards (1,012).

    Any Dolphins Snubs?

Kudos to PFN Analyst Dallas Robinson for putting together a thoughtful and fair list. We’d like to spice things up and give him grief for so-called snubs, but our hearts wouldn’t really be in it.

Christian Wilkins and Zach Sieler both have had fantastic seasons, but neither was one of the top four defensive tackles in football. If Bradley Chubb stayed healthy and made half the sacks that slipped through his fingers, perhaps he would have an argument.

And cornerback Jalen Ramsey didn’t play enough games (and didn’t make enough plays) to get real consideration.

In all, six Pro Bowlers, two All-Pros, and Offensive Player of the Year is a fair recognition for the first 11-win Dolphins team in 15 years.
