Miami Dolphins Practice Report and Injury Update: Don’t Count Out Jaylen Waddle in Week 18

The Miami Dolphins returned to practice Wednesday to start prep for the Buffalo Bills. Here's the latest on WR Jaylen Waddle.

The Miami Dolphins‘ biggest game of the year is Sunday.

Any player who can walk briskly is going to want to play — including wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.

    Will he?

Time will tell, but Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel is certainly going to leave the light on for him.

Waddle, who missed the Bills game with a high ankle sprain, participated in Wednesday’s walkthrough but not practice.

“There’s a little time,” McDaniel said. “… He’ll be working with the training staff today, making sure there’s no setbacks and see where he’s at.

“And then if all signs are go, then we’ll give some practice reps a try to see how it responds to that. With a steady communication with everyone involved, we’ll come to a decision on that. The team’s prepared to play without him. But the team would also love to play with him. So we’ll see how his ankle decides.”

The Dolphins’ offense struggled without Waddle in Week 17, averaging just 6.6 yards per target with no catch over 25 yards against the Ravens.

Waddle and Tyreek Hill are both dealing with balky ankles. NFL Films cameras spotted Hill limping off the field following Sunday’s game.

UPDATED (2:55 p,m.): Hill left Dolphins HQ Wednesday to tend to a personal matter. His house caught fire while he was on the practice field. The Dolphins told reporters that Hill’s family was out of the home and safe.

Waddle was one of the Dolphins’ seven active roster players not spotted at practice (a list that includes LB Bradley Chubb, who’s headed to IR).

The others were RB Raheem Mostert, RB De’Von Achane, OT Terron Armstead, DT Zach Sieler, and CB Xavien Howard. OL Liam Eichenberg warmed up with the team and then went inside.

LB Jerome Baker was designated to return and practiced Wednesday for the first time in weeks. G Robert Hunt, who has missed the better part of two months with a hamstring injury, practiced and seems like he has a good chance to play.
