Saquon Barkley is one of the most explosive weapons in the NFL, and that size and explosiveness work to his favor and his misfortunate at times. Early in the second quarter against the Rams, the New York Giants RB headed to the blue medical tent.
Saquon Barkley Injury Update
After a quick trip the the blue medical tent, Barkley appeared to be okay on the sideline. Although it remains unclear exactly what happened to Barkley, he took a shot to the head on the play before entering the tent. The team and independent evaluators could have been checking him for a potential head injury.
Barkley has often been knocked for his durability, but he’s remained relatively healthy since sustaining a season-ending knee injury in 2020. Various minor injuries and a lack of help on the offensive side of the ball in New York has muted his production at times, leading the Giants to franchise tag him for the current NFL season.

But over his six-year career, he has amassed over 7,000 all-purpose yards for the Giants’ offense while missing almost the entire 2020 season. He’s been a workhorse for the Giants. He returned to the field on the Giants’ next offensive possession.
Potential Fantasy Football Impact
The Giants offense simply hasn’t been able to find a permanent cure to the injury bug throughout the 2023 season, with RB Barkley getting dinged up in the first half of their game against the Los Angeles Rams. Barkley produced just 15 total yards on three touches before heading to the medical tent for further evaluation.
Barkley’s absence from this offense lowers the fantasy projections across the board for players like Tyrod Taylor, Darren Waller, and Wan’Dale Robinson. Expect an expanded role for Matt Breida and Eric Gray in the Giants backfield while Barkley is out of the lineup.
