Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane Week 17 Start/Sit: Which Dolphins RB Can You Trust vs. the Ravens?

    Published on

Can fantasy football managers trust either Raheem Mostert or De'Von Achane in the Dolphins' matchup against the Ravens on Sunday in Week 17?

The Miami Dolphins have a huge game this week as they travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens in a game that will most likely decide which team is the No. 1 seed in the AFC. With wide receiver Jaylen Waddle out, the Dolphins may have to rely on their rushing attack even more than normal.

The Ravens’ defense has been one of the very best in the NFL this year. So, should fantasy football managers trust either Raheem Mostert or De’Von Achane in their potential fantasy championships?

Should You Start Raheem Mostert in Fantasy This Week?

Editor’s Note: Per Adam Schefter, Mostert will not play today.

Yes, I know, Mostert is dealing with an ankle injury that has him currently questionable. If he is unable to go, then obviously he shouldn’t be in your lineup. The expectation is that he will be ready to go on Sunday, which is a great thing for fantasy managers.

If you have had Mostert on your team all year, then as long as he is good to go, he should be in your lineup.

He hasn’t rushed the ball well as of late, as he has rushed for 46 yards or fewer in three of his last four games. Even though he isn’t putting up a ton of yards, he has still seen the end zone six times during that stretch.

On the year, he has scored 21 touchdowns (18 rushing, three receiving), which is tied for the most in the league with Christian McCaffrey. While Baltimore’s defense has been very good, they haven’t been great against the run recently. They have allowed at least 120 yards in two of their last three games and are currently ranked 12th against the run this year (103.4 yards).

This is a huge game for the Dolphins, as they are currently the No. 2 seed. However, if they lose this game, then their matchup next week against the Buffalo Bills could be for the division, with the loser possibly being the sixth seed.

Expect Mostert to play in this game, and expect him to end up where he has all year: the end zone.

Should You Start De’Von Achane in Fantasy This Week?

Achane looked like he was destined to be a fantasy star this year, but he has been unable to get things going since his injury.

In Weeks 2 and 3 against the Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills, he rushed for 304 yards and four touchdowns and caught two passes. However, he got hurt right after that and just hasn’t been quite the same since.

In the win against the Washington Commanders, he had 73 rushing yards and two touchdowns but was able to get some late points because his team was up by so much. That doesn’t figure to be the case in this game, and he hasn’t done much since then.

In his last three games, he rushed for 101 yards without a touchdown. While he hasn’t put up those big numbers recently, he is capable of scoring any time he touches the ball. I don’t think he should be an RB1, but an RB2 or a high-ceiling Flex could be an intriguing option for him.

Which Dolphins RB Can You Trust This Week?

In the Pro Football Network Start/Sit Optimizer, our Consensus Rankings say Mostert is the player to start. His projected 13.7 points include 64 rushing yards, three receptions, and 19 receiving yards. That projected stat line outperforms Achane’s projected 10.9 points.

I am going with the Optimizer on this one. If you have Mostert, play him without a thought. If you have Achane and you need some big-play ability in the Flex, he has a role there.
