CeeDee Lamb’s Frustration Is Justified in Cowboys’ Loss to the Dolphins

Why are CeeDee Lamb's stats from the Cowboys' loss to the Dolphins deceiving, and how can the offense utilize him more consistently?

Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb had a productive first half of the game in the loss to the Miami Dolphins. Despite his productivity, the Cowboys’ offense still has adjustments to make.

    Keeping CeeDee Lamb Involved

The Cowboys can’t crack the code as to why they are struggling to win on the road this season. The team has lost five of their eight road games this season and still has one more on the schedule in Week 18 against the Commanders.

“This narrative around us not winning at away [games], strange but true, unfortunately,” said Lamb, adding, “We know what we gotta do. We know we gotta continue to be great, continue to be who we are, and change that narrative.”

Lamb had six receptions for 118 yards and one touchdown against the Dolphins. And although this sounds like a productive game from the receiver, all of his production came in the first and fourth quarters.

Lamb did surpass 5,000 career scrimmage yards during the game, becoming the first receiver in Cowboys history and the sixth wide receiver in NFL history to reach 5,000 career scrimmage yards in his first four seasons.

After the game, he was clear about his frustrations when he said, “I just feel like if I’m going to be involved, just keep me involved.”

    Lamb’s Journey This Season

Lamb has reason to be frustrated, especially since getting him to this point of the season was a process.

This isn’t the first time Lamb has voiced his frustrations this season, either. After the team’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5, Lamb said he wanted the ball more. Since then, he’s only had two games with less than 10 targets and one with less than 50 receiving yards.

Lamb has been targeted 151 times by Dak Prescott this season, the third-most amount in the NFL. However, the issue is the lack of consistency in using Lamb throughout all four quarters.

Lamb’s best game this season was against the Eagles in Week 9, when he had 191 receiving yards from 11 receptions. Although the Cowboys lost that game, it shows Prescott’s trust in Lamb. In that game, Lamb was more utilized throughout all four quarters.

Although winning on the road has been a struggle for the Cowboys, ensuring Lamb gets the ball consistently could be a learning lesson for head coach Mike McCarthy as the team starts to look ahead to the postseason.
