Cole Kmet Injury Update: Latest on the Bears TE

Cole Kmet earned a contract extension and has lived up to the contract so far. But an apparent knee injury threatens his status against the Cardinals.

DJ Moore is the leading pass catcher for the Chicago Bears, but Cole Kmet has emerged as the team’s second-highest-grossing target. Moore was banged up earlier in the game but returned. However, Kmet left the game with an apparent knee injury. What do we know about the extent of his injury?

    Cole Kmet Injury Update

The Bears originally listed Kmet as questionable to return after sustaining a knee injury on a 29-yard reception in the second quarter.

However, they downgraded the emerging tight end to doubtful before too long.

Kmet was the 43rd pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. After a slow rookie campaign as a 21-year-old, Kmet has been a solid pass-catching weapon as he’s grown as a blocker.

The Bears’ passing attack doesn’t carry much volume, and that volume has largely been distributed between Kmet and Moore in 2023.

    Fantasy Football Impact

The Bears may have to rely on WR DJ Moore even more than normal after Kmet sustained a knee injury against the Arizona Cardinals. Before his injury, Kmet was in the midst of a season-high 107 receiving yards on four receptions.

If Kmet is to miss any time in the near future, Robert Tonyan would see an expanded role at the TE position for the remainder of this contest and moving forward while Kmet is out of the lineup. Others who could see an expanded role would be Darnell Mooney and Tyler Scott.
