Stefon Diggs Week 16 Start/Sit: Fantasy Outlook for Bills WR vs. the Chargers

    Published on

Stefon Diggs was drafted as a fantasy football star. Yet, he has been anything but lately -- can you count on him in your must-win matchup this week?

It’s been a struggle for Buffalo Bills WR Stefon Diggs of late, as his last 100-yard performance came in mid-October, but this Bills team as a whole is trending in a very positive direction. Should you feel confident in starting Buffalo’s WR1 against the Los Angeles Chargers for fantasy football?

Should You Start Stefon Diggs in Week 16?

Due to the blowout nature of Week 15, Diggs saw his snap count fall off a cliff. Buffalo building a massive lead and bullying their way to the finish line against the Dallas Cowboys isn’t something I view as sustainable, so I’m not too worried about that happening at face value.

The concern for Diggs goes well beyond the win over the Cowboys. He’s finished outside of the top 45 at the WR position in four of his past five games per the Week 16 Cheat Sheet, which has him sitting outside of my top 10 this week.

That said, this a great get-right spot for a player averaging 9.8 targets per game, the second most of his career. You can lower your expectations a touch, but benching Diggs is overreacting.

Over the past two weeks, the Chargers have allowed 2.5 PPR points per target to opposing WR1s, and, despite the struggles, there is no denying who the alpha target earner in Buffalo is this year.

Should You Start Diggs or Brandon Aiyuk?

The matchup for Brandon Aiyuk against the Baltimore Ravens is a difficult one, but the consistency of Brock Purdy through the air trumps what Josh Allen brings to the table.

He’s given fantasy managers 100+ yards or a touchdown in six of his past seven games, giving him a floor that we are lacking from Diggs right now.

Should You Start Diggs or Jaylen Waddle?

I prefer Diggs in this spot, regardless if Tyreek Hill plays or not. Jaylen Waddle was great last week, but this matchup with the Cowboys for the Dolphins is a little different. If he is the focal point of this strong unit, his target spike is offset by a dip in quality of opportunity.

The Bills hold a nice edge over the Dolphins in pass rate over expectation, making me more confident in the opportunity for Diggs.
