There will be several NFL teams seeking a new quarterback once the 2023 season ends and everyone is off to combine and free agency season.
The Green Bay Packers, however, won’t be one of them, according to Pro Football Network’s Adam Caplan.
Jordan Love Expected To Be Packers QB1 for 2024
PFN’s Caplan wrote on Monday that Love is beyond safe as the Packers’ QB1 ahead of the 2024 campaign.
“It would seem that fourth-year QB Jordan Love has shown enough to at least come back as the starter next season for Green Bay,” he stated.
Caplan’s report comes in the wake of the Packers struggling to stay afloat in the NFC playoff race. Green Bay took a costly loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 34-20 on Sunday, which dropped their record to 6-8 overall with three games left.
The Love news also comes in a season that started with many wondering if he was the guy worth pivoting towards post-Aaron Rodgers. The young QB had some early struggles to start the season. That includes the four-game losing streak from Week 4 to Week 7. During that time, he threw more interceptions (seven) than touchdowns (four).
Since then, Love has guided the Packers to four wins in their last seven games. He also won’t cost the Packers financially by keeping him.
“He’ll only earn $6 million next season in total ($5 million base salary, $500,000 workout bonus), so he’s quite cost-effective,” Caplan wrote.
How Love Has Won Over the Packers
Again, there was some rough sledding for the first season of the Love era.
The Bakersfield, Ca. native did start fast in the opening two games. He tossed three touchdowns in Week 1 and 2 against the Chicago Bears and Atlanta Falcons, respectively.

While there was a brief stock drop during the four-game slide, here’s what he has accomplished since then:
- Love has improved his touchdown-to-interception ratio drastically after the four-game skid. He’s since thrown 14 touchdowns while only getting picked off three times.
- With Love under center, the Packers are still in the hunt for a final postseason spot and are one game behind the seventh-seed leader Los Angeles Rams.
- Speaking of the Rams, they were one of the aspiring playoff teams Love and the Packers defeated. Green Bay also scored two more monumental wins over the NFC North-leading Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving and against the defending Super Bowl-champion Kansas City Chiefs on Dec. 3.
Love has completed 62.6% of his passes while tossing 25 touchdowns to just 11 picks. He’s also thrown for 3,368 yards. With three games left, he needs 671 yards to surpass the record 4,038 yards Rodgers delivered in his first full season as the starter in 2008. Love has already beaten Brett Favre’s 1992 first-season-in-Green-Bay yardage mark (3,227).
Regardless, there’s no desire for the Packers to look for another QB in the early rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft or free agency, per Caplan.
“From talking to some pro scouting sources, Love has definitely shown improvement this season,” Caplan said.
