New York Giants Playoff Scenarios and Chances: Can They Run the Table?

What are the playoff chances for the New York Giants heading into Week 14, and what scenarios do they need to happen to make the postseason?

The New York Giants‘ playoff chances hang by a thread as we head into the final two games of Week 14. Sitting at 4-8, the Giants are two losses outside of the current playoff picture, but a win against the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football could bring a very different perspective to things looking ahead to the rest of the NFL season.

With the help of the Pro Football Network NFL Playoff Predictor, let’s look at whether the Giants can make the postseason in 2023, and what that path could look like.

What Are the New York Giants’ Playoff Chances and Scenarios This Season?

As the introduction states, the Giants’ chances of making the playoffs this year hang by a thread. According to ESPN’s Football Power Index, they have just a 0.2% chance of making the playoffs this season. New York has already been eliminated from divisional contention and could be eliminated from playoff contention next week if the Packers win.

A loss this week on Monday Night Football would leave the Giants at 4-9 and three games outside of the playoff picture with four games to play. That would mean they could be eliminated next week if results went against them and NFL playoff tiebreakers are considered.

Things get fun if New York beats Green Bay and is just one game out of the seventh seed. With the Packers at 6-7, the Giants would be just one game behind a mass of five teams with that record. Their conference record of 5-4 would be a huge plus, and they play two more teams in that group in the final four weeks.

The big issue for the Giants is that they have two games remaining against the Philadelphia Eagles and would realistically need to go at least 3-1 down the stretch to have a chance of making the playoffs. If they manage that and it includes defeating both the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams, they will have head-to-head victories over the Saints, Rams, and Packers.

New York will need to win three or four of their last four games if it will have any chance of making it to the seventh seed. It would be a surprise if the Giants can get into a Wild Card spot with a 7-10 record, but 8-9 would give them an outside chance. However, there is also a good chance they could finish 8-9 or even 9-8 and miss the playoffs.

New York faces an uphill battle to make the playoffs, but it has a shot with a win tonight. The Giants would need to take at least one game from the Eagles and ideally, they need to go 5-0 over their last five games. That is why their playoff chances are so low according to ESPN’s metrics.
