Which Teams Are Involved in Higher and Lower-Scoring Games Than Expected?

Three teams sit atop the over/under standings so far this year — the Colts, Cowboys, and Lions at 8-4. Interestingly, those three teams are also top of the ATS standings with an 8-4 record as well. At the other end of the chart when it comes to game totals are the Steelers who have seen the over hit in just 16.7% of their games.

Pittsburgh has seen 10 of its 12 games go under this season thanks to a combination of strong defense and less-than-stellar offense. This week that is exacerbated by the loss of Kenny Pickett, leaving Mitch Trubisky leading the offense. Meanwhile, they go up against a Patriots team that has scored a combined 13 points in the last three weeks.

The Thursday Night Football matchup is a battle of two of the six teams that have seen the under hit the most in 2023. The total on Wednesday morning had got as low as 30, and it is still hard to make a case to take the over, which shows just how low-scoring many feel the game will be.

We will see the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football with five of their last six games seeing the over hit. However, this will be the first game this season that their projected total has been over 50. The Eagles have seen the over hit in 58.3% of their games. However, both of their games with projected totals of 50 or more have gone under.

The last time Philadelphia and Dallas faced off, the Eagles won 28-23. If we see a similar score this week then based on the current total of 53, the under would hit, but it is widely expected this game will end with somewhere close to 50 points scored on Sunday Night Football.

The Colts will face a Bengals team coming off a 34-point explosion against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Cincinnati’s offense has struggled since the loss of Joe Burrow but looked close to their best on Monday Night Football. The over has hit in five of the Colts’ past seven, and a total of 40 looks like a mouth-wateringly low number this week. However, the weather may have something to say about that.

The Lions continue to have a reputation for being one of the most exciting teams in the league. They have seen the over hit in their last four games and five of their last six. This week’s total of 40 against the Bears feels low, but there is expected to be some impact from the weather on several games this week.
