Former Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett IV drew attention throughout his college career while leading the Bulldogs to consecutive national titles in the last two seasons.
The Los Angeles Rams selected Bennett in round four of the 2023 NFL Draft, but he has yet to see any action as a rookie. He was removed from the active roster just three days after being named the backup QB behind another former Georgia star, Matthew Stafford.
What Happened to Stetson Bennett?
Bennett is currently listed on the Rams’ reserve/non-football illness list, which he was originally placed on in September.
Bennett missed the Rams Week 1 game against Seattle with a shoulder injury before being placed on the reserve/non-football injury list. Back in September, head coach Sean McVay declined to give any information on the topic.
“Not going to really have any follow-up information or anything that I’ll give in that regard,” McVay said.
While McVay was reluctant to provide specific details regarding Bennett’s situation, he did indicate the decision to place him on the non-football injury list was not related to the shoulder injury that kept him out of the Rams’ season opener against the Seahawks.
“That’s all I’m going to say and I really hope that you can please respect my wishes in regards to keeping that in-house,” McVay said.
“I understand you have a job to do, but there’s certain things that I think are a little bit bigger and more important, and out of respect for the particulars and specifics, want to be able to keep it in-house, and that’s where I’d like to leave it, please.”

After Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford went down with an injury in late October, McVay indicated that Bennett would likely not be back this season.
McVay said Bennett is “doing well” but did not give an update on his status.
“I’m not ready to say that he won’t be back with us at all this year, but it’s probably less likely than it is likely he would be,” McVay said.
Bennett was one of college football’s greatest success stories, as he went from a walk-on quarterback to replacing former potential Heisman Trophy candidate J.T. Daniels.
He successfully led Georgia to back-to-back national championship victories, having his most successful season in 2022 as he completed 68.3% of his pass attempts for 4,127 yards, 27 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
In November, Bennett made his first public appearance in months when he was seen on the Georgia Bulldogs sideline for their win over Ole Miss. He was honored by the Bulldogs with the Burlsworth Trophy, which is given to the most outstanding FBS football player who began as a walk-on for his collegiate career.
