DeSean Jackson officially announced his retirement from the NFL after 15 seasons. He will retire as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, where he spent the majority of his career.
“I’ll forever be an Eagle.” Jackson posted on social media.
Per Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia, the Eagles announced that Jackson will retire as an Eagle on Friday, and he will serve as the team’s honorary captain Sunday when Philly hosts the San Francisco 49ers.
Most recently playing in 2022 with the Baltimore Ravens, Jackson is 37 years old. He will be recognized as the Eagles’ honorary captain at their Week 13 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Jackson played college at the University of California, where he spent three seasons from 2005-2007. He totaled 162 receptions for 2,423 yards and 22 touchdowns. Jackson also had 32 punt returns for 633 yards and six touchdowns. He was named an All-American twice in 2006 and 2007.
Jackson was drafted in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Eagles. He’d spent six seasons there before bouncing around and returning again in 2019 and 2020. In eight seasons with Philadelphia, he caught 379 passes for 6,512 yards and 35 touchdowns. Jackson also had 132 punt returns for 1,296 yards and four touchdowns.
In his career as a whole, Jackson caught 641 passes for 11,263 yards and 58 touchdowns. He returned 140 punts for 1,315 yards and four touchdowns. He has the 35th-most receiving yards in NFL history.

When he wasn’t with Philadelphia, Jackson only returned eight punts. Returning punts was one of Jackson’s specialties, but so was being a deep threat.
Jackson is one of the best deep threats in NFL history, with 24 touchdowns of 60+ yards. That is the most by any player in NFL history, followed by Jerry Rice with 23. He also had 32 touchdowns of 50+ yards.
To be eligible for the NFL Hall of Fame, you must be retired for at least five seasons. That makes Jackson’s eligibility available at the earliest in 2028.

Jackson was a three-time Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro in 2009. He won his first and only championship in Super Bowl LVI when he was in his lone year with the Los Angeles Rams. He had eight receptions for 221 yards and one touchdown in seven games with the Rams.
