Fantasy Football QB Week 13 Trade Targets: Buy Low, Sell High Players Include Kyler Murray and Sam Howell

It’s always difficult to value the quarterback position properly in fantasy football for trading purposes. Eight weeks into the season, values have shifted dramatically. Unraveling all that we saw in Week 12 and translating it into Week 13 QB trade targets is where fantasy managers can differentiate themselves.

To help you get your head around it all, here are our thoughts on some QBs to buy low or sell high entering Week 13.

Which QBs Should You Trade for in Fantasy Football?

    Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals

Since returning, Kyler Murray has posted games of 18, 22, and 20 fantasy points. The next three weeks may be rough with the Pittsburgh Steelers, a bye, and the San Francisco 49ers. But if you’re in the playoffs and lacking at quarterback, that schedule is juicy.

Katz’s Other Week 13 Trade Targets: RB | WRTE

From Weeks 15-17, the Cardinals get the 49ers, Chicago Bears, and Philadelphia Eagles. It’s specifically the Bears and Eagles that you should be excited about.

Murray will be even healthier and more confident in his knee. We could see some 30-point explosions from Murray, carrying fantasy teams to championships.

Which QBs Should You Trade Away in Fantasy Football?

    Sam Howell, Washington Commanders

I would say the Washington Commanders’ decision to give Sam Howell the 2023 season to prove he can be their quarterback of the future has been a good one. Howell will likely never be a superstar, but he is undoubtedly one of the 32 best quarterbacks on the planet.

Fantasy managers who scooped Howell up off the waiver wire earlier in the season have had a QB1 more weeks than not. Entering Week 12, Howell was leading the NFL in passing yards (with the caveat that the Commanders have yet to have their bye). That fact is also relevant to why Howell is a sell-high candidate.

We know Howell isn’t playing football in Week 14, when many fantasy managers will be fighting for their playoff lives. Then, to close out the season, the Commanders have an average matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, followed by two extremely difficult ones against the New York Jets and 49ers.

I would not feel comfortable starting him in either of those two games — the fantasy semis and final. If someone is willing to take him off your hands, feel free to make the move.

Should You Trade Trevor Lawrence for Kyler Murray?

After 10 straight weeks of subpar performance, Trevor Lawrence has put together back-to-back elite QB1 efforts. We saw something similar last season when Lawrence surged over the second half after a lackluster start. Should fantasy managers hold tight? Or send him away for a potential upgrade?

Despite the two quality outings, I still value Murray above Lawrence for the rest of the season. If you aren’t locked into the playoffs, you probably can’t make this move, as you will be without Murray in Week 14. But if your playoff spot is secure, I would rather have Murray.

Should You Trade Sam Howell for Brock Purdy?

It is about to get really challenging for Howell. This week against the Miami Dolphins might be the last time fantasy managers feel confident starting him.

As for Brock Purdy, Week 16 against the Baltimore Ravens is the only difficult game remaining on his schedule. Of course, that is also the most important week of the entire fantasy football season. But it’s not as if Howell draws anyone better — he gets the Jets.

Given the weapons Purdy has to work with and the caliber of his team compared to Howell’s, I would definitely move Howell to acquire Purdy if I could.
