Hunter Renfrow Fantasy Waiver Wire: Should I Pick Up the Raiders Wide Receiver This Week?

Is Hunter Renfrow back on the fantasy football map after his Week 11 performance, or was that a one-week anomaly? Let's give him some waiver wire consideration.

Hunter Renfrow has shined periodically in the Las Vegas Raiders offense. With Davante Adams getting a huge target share, Renfrow comes along for the ride and produces, sometimes below expectations.

Is this a trend or a coincidence? Let’s try to figure it out for fantasy football managers monitoring the waiver wire.

Should Hunter Renfrow Be a Fantasy Waiver Wire Add in Week 12?

We all remember Hunter Renfrow getting open all across the Crimson Tide secondary in the 2017 national title game, so his talent is not up for debate. I have always viewed Renfrow as the second coming of Wes Welker, a player who repeatedly put up 100-catch seasons next to elite perimeter talents.

Thus, it should be no surprise that Renfrow produces when Adams does in Las Vegas. However, it’s been a rocky road for both in 2023.

Renfrow has averaged only 2.7 catches for 26.3 yards (with no touchdowns) over the last three games for a disappointing 10.3% target share. The Raiders still have the Kansas City Chiefs on their schedule twice this season, which is notable because they are the 28th-ranked defense against wide receivers in fantasy.

While that is beautiful for Renfrow, Adams, and quarterback Aidan O’Connell, if you bring your fantasy squad to the fantasy championship, you are rewarded with the toughest matchup for wideouts — the Denver Broncos.

New head coach Antonio Pierce has heard the squeaky wheel that is Davante Adams, and if O’Connell keeps force-feeding him targets, I believe Renfrow will have plenty of room to roam and produce.

I would consider Renfrow a speculative add, as we have not seen him post more than five targets in a game this season. Additionally, PFN’s Kyle Yates has Renfrow buried at WR84 in his early rankings. I can’t blame him one bit.

These savvy under-the-radar moves could bring you home the championship with minimal risk. I would simply advise fantasy managers to consider Renfrow a luxury and not a weekly starter, at least not yet.

I would also ensure I have an alternate plan for Week 17, as I don’t want to roll him out there against the Broncos if I don’t have to.
