Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow has quickly made a name for himself across the NFL and remains one of the league’s premier passers entering the Thursday Night Football game against the division-rival Baltimore Ravens.
His off-field investment has also garnered some recent attention, though.
Does Joe Burrow Own a Farm in Iowa?
Burrow, mainly known for his on-field exploits at LSU and now with the Bengals, grabbed headlines for non-football reasons earlier this year.
The star quarterback was among several notable athletes, alongside NBA players Blake Griffin and Khris Middleton, to join forces as part of an investment group that bought a 104-acre farm in northern Iowa in January, according to the Des Moines Register.
The group reportedly contributed roughly $5 million to a fund for agricultural investments through Patricof Co. At least part of this went toward purchasing the Iowa farm, but the company declined to say how much the farm costs in total.
It was just the first in what is slated to be a series of farm purchases over the next few years, as the group is set to target a “diverse set of agricultural assets” and has looked into watermelon farms in Oregon, according to Front Office Sports.
Alongside Griffin and Middleton, Burrow was also joined in investing by fellow professional athletes Kevin Gausman (Toronto Blue Jays), Kemba Walker (former NBA player, now playing basketball in Europe), TE Zach Ertz (Arizona Cardinals), Anders Lee (New York Islanders) and EDGE Sam Hubbard (Cincinnati Bengals).
Burrow later discussed the investment with reporters following a day of minicamp in June.
“Try to diversify that portfolio, you know?” Burrow said. “You see guys like LeBron doing a lot of off-the-field stuff. I wouldn’t say I’m at that point in my career yet. I would say that’s probably another five years down the road, starting businesses and all that. I’m focused on ball right now for the most part.”

Interestingly, Burrow already has ties to the state of Iowa. He was born in Ames and lived there until he was four years old, while his father, Jim Burrow, served as an assistant coach and then head coach at Ames High School, according to the Des Moines Register.
Jim also coached at Iowa State University before his stint in the high school ranks.
As for Joe, he’s amid another successful NFL season after working through a slow start due to injury. Burrow has gone 233 of 348 for 2,208 yards, 14 touchdowns, and six interceptions across his first nine starts this season and will look to continue that production Thursday against a stout Ravens defense.
