Which Teams Are Involved in Higher and Lower Scoring Games Than Expected?

With six of their nine games going over, the Cowboys are the team that has most consistently been involved in games that score above expectation. In contrast, the Raiders and Giants tend to play out lower-scoring games than expected, with both seeing the under hit in 80% of their games so far.

Dallas has consistently been involved in high-scoring games this season. On their own, they’ve scored 40+ points three times and 30 or over on five occasions. That is usually a good start when it comes to having the game total hit. Unless the total is astronomically high, it just requires the other team to be competent for the over to hit.

This week, the Cowboys face a Panthers team that allows the third-most points in the league per game and scores the fourth-fewest points per game on average. The over has hit in just three of Carolina’s nine games, but Dallas’ high-powered offense could be enough to get this game over the 42.5-point line currently set.

The Raiders and Giants have tended to be involved in low-scoring games this season. New York will play against a Washington team that sees the over hit in 50% of its games, but the last time these two played, the game finished 14-7.

The Commanders will likely have to do the bulk of the heavy lifting in terms of scoring points this week. The Giants are averaging just 11.8 points per game this season and have not scored over 17 since Week 2.

As for the Raiders, they face a Dolphins offense that was hot early in the season but has struggled in a couple of games recently. Two of Miami’s last three games have seen them score 17 points or fewer, which is a long way from their 31.7 ppg average.

However, those games came against two good defenses in tough circumstances. Las Vegas’ defense has been fine but has struggled against the more high-powered offenses.
