Trey McBride Fantasy Waiver Wire: Should I Pick Up the Cardinals TE This Week?

Tight ends are hard to come by during the season, and good ones don't pop up often. So how hard should we go after Trey McBride this week?

The tight end position is a fantasy football wasteland, and we are conditioned to pick up any warm body that receives targets, so obviously, we will pick up Arizona Cardinals TE Trey McBride. The question is, what priority or amount of FAAB should we spend to grab him?

Should Trey McBride Be a Fantasy Waiver Wire Add in Week 11?

I won’t waste your time. Yes, you should pick up McBride. He has all the markers of a dominant fantasy TE for a long time.

McBride was the first tight end drafted in 2022 but was blocked from the starting lineup by Pro Bowler Zach Ertz ever since he arrived in Arizona. That’s not a problem anymore, however, as the Cardinals have placed Ertz on injured reserve (IR).

In the last three weeks, McBride has averaged seven catches for 83 yards and 0.33 touchdowns. We’re getting those elite WR numbers from the TE position, which is a rare situation. I advise you to pounce if he is still available.

If you grabbed McBride a few weeks ago, like me, you know exactly how good this kid is. He’s hauling in an incredible 32.2% target share over the last three games, including 29% in Kyler Murray’s return this past week.

I see McBride’s usage staying consistent with massive upside with Murray back under center instead of the likes of Joshua Dobbs and Carson Tune.

Very few tight ends historically have the ability to put up 130+ yards, 10 catches, or 14 targets. McBride has done all three impressive goals in the last three weeks alone.

His production will only go up from here, with Murray getting healthier and the Cardinals being in a negative game script often and having to throw a lot.

McBride’s rest-of-season schedule is okay but neither spectacular nor treacherous. Three of his remaining six fantasy games (I don’t look at the final week because no one should be having their fantasy championship determined that week) against middle-of-the-road defenses, including this week against the 19th-ranked Texans.

McBride’s playoff schedule has him facing off against the 20th-ranked fantasy defense versus tight ends in the 49ers, followed by a more challenging matchup against the fifth-ranked Bears. However, he has an outstanding opportunity in the fantasy championship week against the Eagles, who are 30th against tight ends.

The TE landscape has Travis Kelce and Mark Andrews on top and Sam LaPorta nipping at their heels as the next big thing at the position. I would personally put McBride right there with him as a top-four option at the position for the rest of the season. We already had him as a top-10 option in the PFN Consensus Rankings for this past week before he exploded for eight catches for 131 yards in his first game with Murray this year.

Make no mistake, this is a full FAAB dump or burn your No. 1 waiver priority situation. I would still do this even if I rostered “Mr. Swift” Kelce or Andrews so I could put McBride in my Flex — he’s that good.
