‘That’s Your 4th-and-3 Play?’ Tommy DeVito’s Dad Is All of Us After Failed Conversion

Tommy DeVito got into the NFL spotlight in his starting debut as an undrafted QB ahead of Week 10. Instead, his father somehow snatched his spotlight.

Turns out even dads of NFL players have a typical knee-jerk reaction to certain play calls.

Except between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants, the father of Tommy DeVito had his vocal reaction go viral — showing that he, too, is just as vocal as the average NFL fan. But his reaction stemmed from one goal-line blunder involving his son’s team.

What Sparked Tommy DeVito’s Dad’s Online Reaction?

The Giants were heavily criticized online and on television for a botched fourth-down attempt inside the Cowboys’ 5-yard line.

Down 7-0, plus already having punted the football three times, New York head coach Brian Daboll decided to roll the dice and go for it on fourth down.

Was he going to trust the legs of the undrafted rookie? Or allow him to roll out and deliver a short air strike attempt to the end zone. Turns out it was neither.

The Giants opted to hand the ball off to Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley up the middle. The Cowboys snuffed out the predictable play…and it led to DeVito’s dad saying, “That’s your 4th-and-3 play?”

Did Things Snowball From There for the Giants?

That call was among a long list of mistake-filled moments for the Giants down in Arlington, Texas.

Following that now infamous fourth-down attempt, Cowboys QB Dak Prescott would hit WR Brandin Cooks for a 25-yard connection that got Dallas out of their own red zone. Then, Prescott found WR CeeDee Lamb for a 30-yard strike that placed Dallas in New York territory at the 30.

Then in the next two plays, Jalen Brooks snatched an 11-yard catch while Tony Pollard ran up the left for 15 yards to position Dallas inside the Giants’ 5-yard line.

The drive ended with rookie Jake Ferguson scoring from one yard out, extending the lead to 14-0. The Giants were never able to recover from there.

Dallas would go on and complete its next two drives with six points. Cooks tacked on six off his 10-yard touchdown reception to make it 21-0. Then, Dak called his own number for the 10-yard scramble into the end zone to inflate the lead to 28-0.

New York’s next three dives: Punt, punt, and another punt. They didn’t officially get into the end zone until the 8:07 mark of the third quarter. That was when DeVito hit Lawrence Cager for 10 yards.

But again, DeVito’s starting NFL debut included his father’s viral frustrations over a highly questionable fourth-down attempt.
