Tommy DeVito Injury Update: Latest News on the Giants QB

The Giants are already down to their third-string QB, and Tommy DeVito took a shot to the head on Sunday. What's the latest for New York?

Already without quarterbacks Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor, the New York Giants can’t afford an injury to third-string rookie Tommy DeVito. But the undrafted free agent took a shot to the head just before halftime in Week 10. What’s the latest on DeVito as the Giants face the Dallas Cowboys?

    Tommy DeVito Injury Update

DeVito scrambled for a two-yard gain with roughly three minutes remaining in the second quarter, but he got hit in the head by Cowboys defender Dante Fowler Jr. and was slow to get up after the play.

Typically, players who take shots to the helmet are sent to the blue medical tent for a concussion evaluation. But the Giants never announced that DeVito was checked for a head injury.

DeVito returned for New York’s final drive of the second quarter, kneeling the ball with 10 seconds remaining before the half.

Had DeVito been sidelined, veteran Matt Barkley would have taken over under center. The Giants signed Barkley to their practice squad on Oct. 31 and then promoted him to their active roster last week.

Jones tore his ACL in Week 9 and is on season-ending injured reserve. Taylor is also on IR after suffering a rib injury in Week 9. He’ll need to miss at least two more games after this week but could return later this season.

DeVito was called on in each of the last two weeks, completing 17 of 27 attempts for 174 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions against the New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders. He’s four of nine for 24 scoreless yards today.

How Would a DeVito Injury Affect the Giants’ Offense?

The revolving door at the QB position for the Giants may continue to spin with DeVito getting banged up in the first half of their contest against the Cowboys. DeVito generated zero points on six offensive possessions and threw for just 24 yards on nine passing attempts.

The next man up under center for New York would be Barkley. The Giants losing DeVito under center will not impact the other fantasy-relevant skill-position players in any way, seeing how poorly the offense was performing under center with him anyway.
