Demario Douglas Fantasy Value: Should You Trade the Patriots WR After Week 10?

Patriots WR Demario Douglas has strung together three productive games in a row. Should you consider trading him from your fantasy team?

The New England Patriots‘ passing offense hasn’t exactly been exciting from a passing perspective in 2023. But rookie WR Demario Douglas has turned some heads over the last three weeks with a big spike in usage. Should fantasy football managers look to trade Douglas after his Week 10 performance?

    Demario Douglas’ Rest-of-Season Outlook

The injury to WR Kendrick Bourne has opened the door for the rookie wideout to see an expanded role in the Patriots’ passing attack over the last month of the season. Douglas had a career day against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 10 with six receptions for 84 yards on eight targets, which were all career highs.

The Patriots only threw for 195 yards, which means Douglas nearly accounted for half of those yards through the air. He easily paced the Pats’ pass catchers across the board, with no other player catching more than three passes.

This performance wasn’t his only productive outing over the last three games. He has caught a minimum of five passes in three straight games. Sure, the yardage totals haven’t been gaudy, but his role in this offense has clearly expanded. He appears to be the most reliable fantasy option from this passing offense moving forward.

    Should You Trade Douglas?

Should You Trade Douglas for Rashee Rice?

Speaking of rookie WRs trending in the right direction, Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice has seen his snap count percentage increase in five straight games. During that span, Rice has scored three touchdowns and topped 55 yards receiving in three of those games.

Douglas may have a slightly higher floor in PPR formats with his reception and target totals trending up. But Rice has a much higher ceiling in an offense that feels like it is in a different galaxy with regards to generating scoring opportunities. I would trade Douglas for Rice.

Should You Trade Douglas for Jahan Dotson?

Few teams in the league throw the ball as much as the Washington Commanders in 2023. After a slow start to his sophomore season, Jahan Dotson has really started to turn the corner. He has generated 17 receptions for 220 yards and two scores over the last three games.

Douglas has been really good, but again, him being stuck in the Patriots’ offense limits his fantasy ceiling significantly in comparison to Dotson. I would trade Douglas for Dotson.

Should You Trade Douglas for George Pickens?

Pittsburgh Steelers WR George Pickens is going through a bit of a sophomore slump with just three receptions for 21 yards and a score over the last two games. To make matters worse, Pickens has seen just five targets in each of his last two games, which are both season lows.

I still believe in Pickens as a pure talent, but his recent usage is definitely a concern. I would trade Douglas for Pickens because I truly believe better days are ahead. Nonetheless, the floor definitely feels a bit lower for Pickens moving forward.
