Where Did Tommy DeVito Go to College?

    Published on

Tommy DeVito is now a name Giants fans are getting used to. But before going undrafted, where did he play collegiately?

When Tommy DeVito lines up behind center in Week 10 for the New York Giants, the franchise will have a past local star guiding them.

DeVito, even in what’s been a struggling 2023 for the Giants, will do his part in trying to galvanize the fan base against the Dallas Cowboys. DeVito has already won over members of the Giants’ base for being a past star at New Jersey powerhouse Don Bosco Prep. But was DeVito equally a star in college?

Tommy DeVito Began His College Career Near His Home

DeVito was once considered a prized area pickup for Syracuse University.

He was a four-star prospect out of Don Bosco and the state of New Jersey’s No. 7 ranked prospect by 247Sports.

DeVito, however, never got the chance to finish his career with the Orange. He eventually grad-transferred to Illinois.

He played four seasons for Syracuse from 2018 to 2022. He saw action in 26 total games and threw for 3,866 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

In his lone season with the Fighting Illini, DeVito ended up with two career-highs: 2,650 yards and a 69.6% completion rate. He also threw 15 touchdown passes and was picked off four times.

DeVito Makes Unique Claim About Home Life

DeVito has proven there are perks to returning home after college, even in the NFL. Mom can still take care of you. And his mom is doing just that.

DeVito revealed to ESPN NFL reporter Jordan Raanan that he’s living at his parent’s house … and his mother is taking good care of him.

“It was a no-brainer for me. Everything that I need is there at the house,” DeVito said. “The decision was made since this level of football is stressful for a rookie, especially from the quarterback position. A lot is going on, a lot of meetings. So everything outside of football is handled by my family.”

He found a unique way to avoid the stress of finding a one-bedroom condo or house in general with his current $750,000 salary he was given by the Giants. Furthermore, with DeVito’s newfound busy schedule, he has someone helping take care of his cooking and cleaning while he tackles his current job.

“I don’t have to worry about laundry, what I’m eating for dinner, chicken cutlets, and all that is waiting for me when I get there. My mom still makes my bed. Everything is handled for me,” he said. “Honestly, I don’t even know if I could find a place closer to here than where I live. It takes me 12 minutes to get here.”
