Long before the social media era became fixated on country/pop star Taylor Swift attending Kansas City Chiefs games or even Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper showing his fandom for the Eagles, there was the sight of the late princess wearing the Eagle colors. “Princess Di” wearing the varsity-themed jacket sparked the notion that she had adopted the Eagles as her NFL team and gave the league a prominent celebrity follower.
Princess Diana was originally captured with the jacket in January 1991 while dropping off her son, Prince Harry, at Weatherby School in London.
Was Princess Diana a Loyal Eagles Fan? Looking Back at Her Ties to Philadelphia
In 1982, the late princess attended the funeral of a close friend in Philadelphia.
She was the Royal Family representative at the service for the Princess of Monaco, Grace Kelly. It just so happens Kelly had ties to the City of Brotherly Love.

Kelly was born and raised in Philadelphia. The guest list not only included Philly natives, but even Eagles statistician Jack Edelstein was in attendance.
But per Edelstein, “Princess Di” took a liking to the colors green and silver, the famed colors attached to the Eagles. Ultimately, an Eagles jacket was designed for her and came courtesy of then-franchise owner Leonard Tose.
Did that make the late princess a loyal Eagles fan? While she wore the colors and logo, she wasn’t seen as a regular attendee of Eagles games at Veterans Stadium. In an interview with ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown, former bodyguard Ken Wharfe detailed that she liked the casualness of the jacket.
“Diana always craved the normalcy. By being a member of the royal family, that was almost impossible. Neither William nor Harry, when they were kids, wanted their mother to sort of dress in her finery and take them to school. So all Diana would do is be as casual as possible,” Wharfe explained.
Furthermore, Wharfe added, “Diana loved to be different, this was her style. It sort of showed the public and her children that she was a normal mother in a style that people liked.”
But now, the jacket is being resold for a limited time for $400 and will be sold through the Eagles’ team store. The Mitchell and Ness store and Fanatics are also joining in on pushing sales for the iconic jacket.
