Chicago Bears RB Khalil Herbert was just starting to hit his stride before suffering an ankle injury against the Washington Commanders and being sent to injured reserve (IR). Can managers expect Herbert to return to the starting lineup for their fantasy football teams in Week 10? Let’s take a closer look.
Latest Injury Update on Khalil Herbert
According to a recent report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bears have designated Herbert for return from IR. This decision from the Bears opens a 21-day practice window that will allow the team to make a definitive decision on whether or not to promote Herbert to the active roster based on how his recovery is going.
Will Herbert Play This Week?
The timing for Herbert’s potential return to the lineup unfortunately falls on a week where the Bears have a Thursday Night Football matchup against the Carolina Panthers. Given that it is a short week, fantasy managers will need to closely monitor Herbert’s work in practice on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Editor’s Note: According to a recent report from Steve Reed, Herbert was listed as a full participant for Tuesday’s practice.
What Does This Mean For Roschon Johnson, Darrynton Evans, and D’Onta Foreman?
Herbert’s status will have a huge impact on the fantasy value and outlook of both D’Onta Foreman and Roschon Johnson heading into Week 10. If the last two weeks were any indication of who will lead this backfield if Herbert is unavailable, the clear answer is Foreman.
Against the New Orleans Saints in Week 9, Foreman led the team with 20 carries for 83 yards on the ground, while Johnson and Darrynton Evans combined for three carries for eight yards.

Foreman also managed to score three touchdowns against the Las Vegas Raiders back in Week 7, which has made him the best fantasy option in this backfield by a wide margin while Herbert has been unavailable.
Herbert was beginning to look like a reliable RB2 against the Denver Broncos and Washington before his injury. Herbert logged his first 100-yard rushing performance of the season against the Broncos in Week 4 and was averaging 7.6 yards per carry over his 10 touches against the Commanders.
If Herbert is available to play against the Panthers — who are giving up an average of 27.4 fantasy points per game to opposing RBs — he would be a strong RB2 option for fantasy managers in Week 10.
