Pro Football Network’s Week 10 NFL Power Rankings: Are the Ravens, Eagles, or Chiefs No. 1?

    Published on

We polled every member of the Pro Football Network NFL department to determine our Week 10 NFL Power Rankings. Which teams are too high, and which are too low?

Welcome to Week 10 of the Pro Football Network company-wide NFL Power Rankings. While Dalton Miller ably provides his own power rankings following the conclusion of each Sunday’s action, we’ll be polling each of PFN’s NFL contributors to assemble our list.

Each week, we’ll combine rankings from yours truly, Chief Content Officer David Bearman, NFL Director Adam Beasley, Betting Director Brian Blewis, Audience Engagement Director Mike Gambardella, COO Matt Infante, NFL Analyst Dalton Miller, Bengals Reporter Jay Morrison, Cowboys Reporter Jess Nevarez, and Fantasy Director Kyle Yates.

Which teams are too high or too low as we enter Week 10 of the 2023 NFL season?

Pro Football Network’s Week 10 NFL Power Rankings

    32) Carolina Panthers

    Week 9 Ranking: 32

The Panthers surprisingly stayed quiet at the trade deadline, holding onto potentially movable assets like pass rusher Brian Burns and cornerback Donte Jackson. Meanwhile, Bryce Young posted arguably his worst game as a pro in Week 10, tossing three interceptions and taking four sacks in a loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Carolina got its first win in Week 9 and could conceivably beat the Chicago Bears on Thursday night. But that probably doesn’t make Panthers fans — or owner David Tepper — feel any better.

    31) Arizona Cardinals

    Week 9 Ranking: 31

It’s impossible to overstate how poor the Cardinals’ Clayton Tune-led offensive attack was on Sunday. Tune lost 41 yards on seven sacks, while Arizona netted just 58 offensive yards.

MORE: Will Kyler Murray Play in Week 10?

Only six NFL teams this century failed to post at least 60 total yards in a single game. The worst? A 2004 Cleveland Browns team that put up just 26 total yards against the Buffalo Bills (Luke McCown absorbed -65 yards worth of sacks).

    30) New York Giants

    Week 9 Ranking: 30

While the Giants maintained their No. 30 spot in this week’s power rankings, they have a decent chance of falling to the bottom by the end of the season. After suffering a torn ACL in Week 9, Daniel Jones will head to injured reserve (IR), where fellow QB Tyrod Taylor already resides.

Undrafted rookie free agent Tommy DeVito connected on 75% of his passes after replacing Jones on Sunday, but he posted just a 3.6 QBR — only Tune was worse. He probably won’t be any better as a 16.5-point underdog against the Dallas Cowboys’ defense in Week 10.

    29) Chicago Bears

    Week 9 Ranking: 29

Although it’s still unclear if Justin Fields (dislocated thumb) will suit up for Thursday Night Football, the Bears’ QB1 seems to be trending toward playing against the Panthers. The Tyson Bagent Experiment was a fun detour, but Chicago needs to evaluate Fields over the second half of the season before deciding whether to target another quarterback in next year’s draft.

    28) New England Patriots

    Week 9 Ranking: T-27

Ahead of Week 9, the Boston Globe’s Ben Volin suggested “there’s a chance” the Kraft family could fire Bill Belichick if the Patriots lost to the Washington Commanders and Indianapolis Colts over the following two weeks.

One down, one to go. It seems unfathomable that the Pats would fire an icon like Belichick in-season (and in Germany, no less), but New England is undoubtedly the AFC’s worst team.

    27) Las Vegas Raiders

    Week 9 Ranking: T-27

Antonio Pierce still has a lot of work to do to convince Raiders owner Mark Davis to remove the “interim” label, but Week 10 couldn’t have gone any better for Las Vegas’ temporary head coach. Pierce and fourth-round rookie QB Aidan O’Connell got their first NFL wins as the Raiders demolished the Giants, Pierce’s former team.

Still, Davis didn’t hire Rich Bisaccia as Vegas’ full-time head coach even after he took the Raiders to the playoffs in 2021. Can Pierce persuade him to take a different approach this time around?

    26) Green Bay Packers

    Week 9 Ranking: 26

The Packers boasted their best rushing output of the season in Week 9, totaling 184 ground yards against the Los Angeles Rams. Green Bay won 20-3, but the game was hardly that close. Playing against a struggling backup quarterback in Brett Rypien (whom the Rams have since released), the Packers still couldn’t take control until late in the fourth quarter.

    25) Denver Broncos

    Week 9 Ranking: 25

We may have been too quick to judge the Broncos as they work through Sean Payton’s first year in charge. While Denver’s defense will never be able to erase its Week 3, 70-point nightmare, Vance Joseph’s unit started to come on strong before the Broncos’ Week 9 bye.

Denver gave up 45 points over three games to the Kansas City Chiefs (twice) and Packers from Weeks 6-8 while winning two of those contests. It’s still difficult to view the 3-5 Broncos as even fringe playoff contenders, but they aren’t the laughingstock they appeared to be earlier this season.

    24) Los Angeles Rams

    Week 9 Ranking: 20

Denver would have a better chance to compete for the postseason in the NFC, where the 3-6 Rams are still a viable wild card team.

MORE: When Can Rams RB Kyren Williams Return From IR?

While Rypien didn’t give Los Angeles a chance against the Packers on Sunday, new addition Carson Wentz might offer better production if called on to replace Matthew Stafford (thumb). But head coach Sean McVay expects Stafford to play in Week 10.

    23) Tennessee Titans

    Week 9 Ranking: 22

Good on the Titans for accepting that 2023 is turning into a rebuilding — or at least, resetting — season. Tennessee traded safety Kevin Byard before the deadline, then named Will Levis the club’s starting quarterback, even if Ryan Tannehill (ankle) can return this week.

It’s worth wondering why the Titans didn’t trade Tannehill last week, especially with teams like the Minnesota Vikings and (potentially) New York Jets searching for QB upgrades. But it’s possible Tennessee couldn’t find a taker with Tannehill injured.

    22) Washington Commanders

    Week 9 Ranking: 24

The Commanders — or, more likely, Washington’s new ownership group — took the long view at last week’s trade deadline, authorizing deals that shipped out pass rushers Chase Young and Montez Sweat. But that didn’t prevent Ron Rivera’s squad from pulling out a 20-17 win over the Patriots on Sunday.

Sam Howell leads the NFL with 353 pass attempts. He’s on pace for 667 attempts, which would be the 11th most in a single season in league history. Washington’s 2024 decision-makers — whomever they may be — are certainly getting ample opportunity to assess the former fifth-rounder.

    21) Atlanta Falcons

    Week 9 Ranking: 18

Which is the Falcons’ worst Week 9 sin: Losing to Vikings backup QB Joshua Dobbs, who barely knew Minnesota’s playbook, or giving No. 8 overall pick Bijan Robinson one fewer carry than Tyler Allgeier?

Allgeier has 21 carries inside the 10-yard line this season. Bijan has two — the same as Cordarrelle Patterson and tight end Jonnu Smith. Should Arthur Smith be on the hot seat?

    20) Tampa Bay Buccaneers

    Week 9 Ranking: 17

Tampa Bay looked like it could repeat as NFC South champions earlier this season, but four straight losses have mostly knocked them out of contention. While Todd Bowles’ defense allowed at least 380 yards in all four of those games, the unit had been preventing points — until Sunday, when C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans put up 39.

The Buccaneers’ loss shouldn’t overshadow an excellent day from Baker Mayfield, who now ranks ninth in EPA per play and 15th in QBR. Mayfield should have options in free agency after playing better than anyone could have expected this season.

    19) Indianapolis Colts

    Week 9 Ranking: 23

One week after posting their worst performance of the season against the New Orleans Saints, the Colts’ defense had its best game of the year. Indy registered three interceptions and four sacks against Panthers QB Bryce Young, and CB Kenny Moore II scored two defensive touchdowns.

But Gardner Minshew II and the Colts’ offense managed fewer than 200 total yards and was anemic in the second half of Sunday’s win. The Colts will hang around this season, but they feel too inconsistent to mount a real threat.

    18) New York Jets

    Week 9 Ranking: 16

Speaking of outstanding defensive efforts, the Jets held the Los Angeles Chargers to just 191 total yards and still lost by three scores. The loss can’t be entirely pinned on Zach Wilson, who was constantly pressured and fell victim to multiple dropped passes.

MORE: Aaron Rodgers on Comeback Trail?

But doesn’t Robert Saleh have to give backups Tim Boyle or Trevor Siemian a chance under center or risk losing the locker room?

    17) Minnesota Vikings

    Week 9 Ranking: 21

Joshua Dobbs is quickly becoming the NFL’s resident expert at playing quarterback on extremely short notice. Forced into action after Jaren Hall’s concussion, Dobbs totaled three scores and led the Vikings to a win over the Falcons, moving Minnesota to 5-4 on the year.

Although it felt like the Vikings’ season had essentially ended when Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles in Week 8, Dobbs has given Minnesota a spark. With Justin Jefferson eligible to return from IR this week and the NFC’s seventh seed up for grabs, the Vikes are legitimate playoff contenders.

    16) Houston Texans

    Week 9 Ranking: 19

C.J. Stroud put on a fireworks show in Week 9, setting a new NFL rookie record with 470 passing yards while tossing five touchdowns and calmly leading a game-winning, 75-yard TD drive in just 40 seconds.

The Texans have to be through-the-roof happy with their rookie quarterback selection, especially as what looked like a rebuilding campaign has turned into a possible playoff season.

    15) New Orleans Saints

    Week 9 Ranking: 15

The Saints don’t look like a Super Bowl contender this season, but they’re comfortably better than the other teams in the NFC South. While they only have a one-game lead, New Orleans is the lone team in the division with a positive point differential. Expect the gap between the Saints and the Falcons, Bucs, and Panthers to widen as the season progresses.

    14) Pittsburgh Steelers

    Week 9 Ranking: 14

Can all four AFC North teams make the playoffs?

The Steelers have the worst odds, per the NY Times’ projection model, which gives Pittsburgh a 44% chance to enter the postseason. But they’re already 2-0 in the division, with wins over the Browns and Ravens, and it’s impossible to count out Mike Tomlin’s team.

    13) Los Angeles Chargers

    Week 9 Ranking: 13

Three of the Chargers’ four losses were to teams — the Dolphins, Cowboys, and Chiefs — that we haven’t yet reached in our power rankings. They’ve mostly taken care of business against inferior clubs, with a Week 2 overtime loss to the Titans as their only blemish on that front.

But Los Angeles’ schedule won’t get any easier in the short term, as they’ll have to face the Lions and Ravens in two of their next three games.

    12) Seattle Seahawks

    Week 9 Ranking: 11

The Seahawks team that was destroyed by the Ravens on Sunday looked nothing like the Seattle club that had jumped out to a 5-2 record and taken hold of first place in the NFC West.

MORE: Grading the Seahawks’ Trade for DT Leonard Williams

It’s hard to take anything away from a 37-3 destruction, and upcoming games against the Rams and Commanders might not tell us much about Seattle, either. But a subsequent three-game stretch featuring two games against the San Francisco 49ers and one against the Cowboys will show us the real Seahawks.

    11) Cleveland Browns

    Week 9 Ranking: 12

The Browns made mincemeat of rookie Cardinals QB Clayton Tune en route to yet another historic defensive performance in Week 9.

But the more significant story was the return of Deshaun Watson, who hit 19 of 30 attempts for 219 yards and two touchdowns. He was turnover-free and hardly pressured — will that change against better defenses, especially with left tackle Jedrick Wills sidelined for the next six weeks?

    10) Buffalo Bills

    Week 9 Ranking: T-8

It was evident that losing CB Tre’Davious White, LB Matt Milano, and DT DaQuan Jones to season-ending injuries would negatively impact the Bills’ defense — but the dropoff has been worse than anyone might have expected.

The Bills were the NFL’s second-least-efficient defense over the past four weeks. Since Week 6, Buffalo is allowing 0.66 EPA per play — they’ve essentially turned every opposing offense into Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs during that span.

    9) Detroit Lions

    Week 9 Ranking: 7

The Lions have fulfilled their 2023 promise and then some. On a bye in Week 9, Detroit has already essentially guaranteed itself a playoff spot. The Vikings are hanging around in the NFC North, but the Lions are the overwhelming division favorites.

They’re well above average on both sides of the ball and have one of the league’s easiest schedules moving forward. What’s not to like about the Lions?

    8) Jacksonville Jaguars

    Week 9 Ranking: T-8

The Jaguars have been a completely different team since an early-season loss to the Texans dropped them to 1-2. Not only has Jacksonville reeled off five straight wins, but they’re one of only three teams (along with the Ravens and Bengals) to field a top-five offense and defense by EPA per play during that span.

Doug Pederson’s squad is becoming one of the most complete clubs in the NFL.

    7) Dallas Cowboys

    Week 9 Ranking: 5

Dallas couldn’t pull out a win against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, but it’s difficult to move them too far down our power rankings. The Cowboys outgained the Eagles by over 100 yards and came up just inches short of a game-winning touchdown pass.

Mike McCarthy’s team is a clear playoff contender in the NFC, especially if Dak Prescott keeps playing like this. Over the past two weeks, he’s completed 72% of his passes for almost 700 yards and seven total touchdowns.

    6) Cincinnati Bengals

    Week 9 Ranking: 10

In what became a relatively stagnant week in the power rankings, the Bengals and Vikings’ four-spot improvements represented the biggest jumps from Week 9. Cincinnati fell as low as No. 19 after dropping to 1-3 earlier this year, but they’ve clawed their way back into the NFL’s elite tier.

MORE: 6 Bold Predictions For the Bengals’ Second Half

With his calf strain in the rearview mirror, Joe Burrow continues to look like the MVP candidate we remember. The only thing standing in the Bengals’ way is an incredibly daunting schedule, which includes games against the Chiefs, Jaguars, and the entire AFC North (including the Steelers twice).

    5) San Francisco 49ers

    Week 9 Ranking: 6

No team needed a bye in Week 9 more than the 49ers, and that’s precisely what they got. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel (shoulder) and left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) should be able to return from injuries when San Francisco faces the Jaguars on Sunday, giving the Niners two of their best players back for a critical intraconference matchup. And now they have Chase Young!

    4) Miami Dolphins

    Week 9 Ranking: 4

The Dolphins had a chance to take the lead — or win the game — against the Chiefs in London on Sunday morning, but a botched final series left Miami with a 6-3 record heading into its bye week.

While the Dolphins have to appreciate how their defense tightened up against Patrick Mahomes in the second half, Miami continues to commit self-inflicted errors. Talent-wise, the Dolphins are as good as any team in the NFL — on both sides of the ball.

    3) Kansas City Chiefs

    Week 9 Ranking: 2

Kansas City’s defense bailed out its offense against the Dolphins on Sunday, something that’s started to happen more frequently. This is the best Chiefs defense that Patrick Mahomes has played alongside, which is a scary sentence for the rest of the league.

While K.C.’s wide receiving corps continues to be an issue, a Mahomes + Travis Kelce + Andy Reid + elite defense combination can beat any team in the NFL.

    2) Baltimore Ravens

    Week 9 Ranking: 3

Over the past three weeks, the Ravens beat the Lions and Seahawks — neither particularly a slouch — by a combined score of 75-9. Lamar Jackson is playing like he wants another MVP award, while defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald has probably already locked down a 2024 head coaching opportunity.

Baltimore can defeat its opponents in so many diverse ways. Lamar threw for 357 yards and three TDs in the Ravens’ thrashing of Detroit. But the Ravens took an entirely different approach against Seattle. They rushed for nearly 300 yards as a team, with five players posting at least 40 yards on the ground.

    1) Philadelphia Eagles

    Week 9 Ranking: 1

The Eagles were largely outplayed by the Cowboys on Sunday, but they managed to pull out a victory to become the NFL’s only eight-win team.

It feels like nitpicking, but Philadelphia is dealing with legitimate injury issues. No matter how often he refuses to discuss it, Jalen Hurts’ leg is clearly bothering him. Meanwhile, tight end Dallas Goedert is expected to miss at least four weeks after fracturing his forearm.

Fortunately for the Eagles, they’re heading into a Week 10 bye. They’ll need the rest, especially with a Chiefs-Bills-49ers-Cowboys-Seahawks gauntlet starting in Week 11.
