Michael Pittman Jr. went down after taking a massive hit in Sunday’s Indianapolis Colts-Carolina Panthers game. What happened to Pittman, and what’s his current injury status?
Michael Pittman Jr. Injury Update
Pittman took a hard hit from Panthers safety Vonn Bell while trying to haul in a pass midway through the second quarter of today’s game. Bell was flagged for unnecessary roughness and also appeared to be injured on the play.
Bell’s helmet hit Pittman directly in the chest. While Pittman was able to leave the field under his own power, he went to the blue medical tent on the Colts’ sideline to be evaluated.

Indianapolis announced Pittman was being checked for a concussion. Fortunately, he was able to return to the game on Indianapolis’ next offensive series.
Pittman leads the Colts in targets (78), receptions (50), receiving yards (529), and receiving TDs (three). He’d posted three catches for 20 yards before leaving today.
Indianapolis already banged up in its receiving corps. Fellow pass catcher Josh Downs picked up a knee issue during Thursday’s practice and was questionable coming into Week 9. Downs suited up but is clearly playing through an injury.
What Would the Colts’ Offense Look Like Without Pittman?
Pittman got shaken up in the first half of the Colts’ matchup against the Panthers. If he should miss any time in this game or the coming weeks, look for an expanded role for Josh Downs, Isaiah McKenzie, and Alec Pierce in Indy’s passing game.
