Raheem Mostert Fantasy Value: Should You Trade the Dolphins RB After Week 9?

Miami Dolphins RB has scored 11 rushing TDs through the team's first nine games of the season. Should you consider trading him before De'Von Achane returns?

Miami Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert got off to a league-winner-type start through the first month of the 2023 NFL season. But should his recent usage and production over the last couple of games mean you should take this opportunity to trade Mostert off of your fantasy football team before dynamic rookie RB De’Von Achane returns to the team?

    Raheem Mostert’s Rest-of-Season Outlook

Mostert was the RB3 overall in PPR formats heading into Week 9, which may make the hypothetical “Should you trade Mostert” question a very confusing one. He leads the league in rushing TDs (11) and has led the team in carries every game since Achane went to injured reserve (IR) with a knee injury.

The situation that fantasy managers find themselves in at the current moment is one where Mostert has still been losing some work while Achane has been out of the lineup — namely to Salvon Ahmed and Jeff Wilson Jr. — and could lose even more work in the future if Achane plays at his historically efficient upon return from IR.

Mostert’s role in a high-powered offense means he should still be in the RB2 conversation on a weekly basis at an absolute minimum. But with Achane returning from IR and how he has been splitting work with multiple backs, you should strongly consider trading Mostert while you have this two-week window.

Should You Trade Raheem Mostert for James Cook?

Mostert may have to contend with another back in his backfield, but at least he doesn’t have to contend with two TD vultures on his own team. Josh Allen and Latavius Murray are both better red-zone options than Cook, and that doesn’t even include what type of potential role Leonard Fournette will have once he gets up to speed.

I personally would rather have Mostert than Cook because they both play in high-scoring offenses. However, Mostert has less competition for the highly valuable fantasy touches in the red zone. I would not trade Mostert for Cook.

Should You Trade Mostert for Kyren Williams?

Kyren Williams is eligible to return from IR as early as Week 12 against the Arizona Cardinals, which makes it very difficult to justify trading a proven RB1 for an injured RB still three weeks away from potentially returning.

Not to mention, Rams starting QB Matthew Stafford is currently dinged up and could miss some time in the near future. There is some uncertainty right now with L.A.’s offense, which means I’m going to be risk-averse and pass on dealing Mostert at this price.

Should You Trade Mostert for Najee Harris?

Mostert’s role in an explosive offense feels far more valuable than Najee Harris’ value in a struggling offense. Not to mention, Harris is in a full-blown timeshare with Jaylen Warren, which makes the decision to hold Mostert in this situation that much easier.
