Cincinnati Bengals Injury and Practice Report: 2 Defensive Linemen Missing Wednesday

The Cincinnati Bengals were without arguably their best defensive player at practice today, but the news wasn't all bad on the injury front.

Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson was not at practice today during the portion open to the media.

Hendrickson suffered a foot injury Sunday in the 31-17 win at San Francisco and had to be helped off the field, but he returned for the next series and finished the game.

Which Bengals Were Not Practicing Today?

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said Monday they would manage Hendrickson’s injury through the week, and taking Wednesday off appears to be the start of that.

Defensive tackle Josh Tupou also wasn’t practicing. Tupou has been on the injury report with a toe the last couple of weeks, but he didn’t have an injury designation on Friday’s final report and played 21 snaps (36%) at San Francisco.

Safety Tycen Anderson, the team’s Special Teams Player of the Week last week, also was not at practice. He suffered a knee injury Sunday.

On the positive side of things for the Bengals, linebacker and special teamer Akeem Davis-Gaither was practicing for the first time since suffering a knee injury on Sept. 22, which was the Friday before the Week 3 Monday night game against the Rams.

Davis-Gaither missed four games, but the team did not place him on injured reserve, so he is eligible to play Sunday night against the Bills.

Running back Chase Brown is on IR after suffering a hamstring injury in practice Thursday, but he already was doing side work on the rehab field today. That’s a good sign for him to return to action as soon as he is eligible, which would be the Week 12 home game against the Steelers.

Also working on the rehab field was rookie receiver and punt returner Charlie Jones, who is on IR and eligible to return this week.

However, Taylor said that would not be the case. The Bengals filled their opening on the 53-man roster created by Brown going on IR with tight end Tanner Hudson. If Anderson ends up going on IR, there would be an opening, but Taylor made it sound as though the plan is to activate Jones for the Week 10 home game against Houston on Nov. 12.

Update 4:20 p.m.: Running back Joe Mixon was listed as a limited participant Wednesday with a chest injury, but he was making the rounds in the locker room after practice rather than getting treatment.

Orlando Brown Jr. also was limited as he continues to push through a groin injury. And Davis-Gaither was limited in his return to the practice field.

Wednesday’s injury report lists Tupou with a shoulder issue rather than the toe.
