Who Did the New York Giants Draft In 2024? Picks, Analysis, and More

    Published on

With pressure mounting on the current regime, the New York Giants are banking on a solid 2024 NFL Draft class to get them to the next level.

It was a tough go for the New York Giants last season, finishing 6-11 and missing the postseason after winning a Wild Card game the year before.

While they are saddled with Daniel Jones behind center after extending his contract last year, the Giants had an opportunity to help him or give him competition with a top-10 selection in a 2024 NFL Draft class laden with quarterbacks, receivers, and offensive linemen. Let’s take a look at how they approached their 2024 draft class.

Who Did the Giants Draft in 2024?

Malik Nabers, WR, Round 1, Pick 6

Nabers is a dynamic three-level weapon with near-unmatched upside. He has the stem IQ, speed, throttle control, stride freedom, and bend to separate on the vertical and horizontal planes. And at the catch point, he’s a smooth contortionist with body control, patience, and reliable hands.

Considering his imperfect profile against the press and as a route runner, Nabers likely translates best as a versatile movement-Z early in his career. But within that role, he can thrash defenses on vertical routes and digs, make clutch catches, and he can also be schemed touches with his high-level RAC ability.

    Tyler Nubin, S, Round 2, Pick 47

Following the departure of Xavier McKinney in free agency, New York had a gaping hole at safety. Therefore, the Giants selected arguably the top safety in the 2024 NFL Draft in the second round. Minnesota safety Tyler Nubin is headed to New York with the No. 47 overall selection.

Pro Football Network’s Ian Cummings discussed Nubin’s versatility and potential impact at the next level in his scouting report.

“Tyler Nubin isn’t the most dynamic blitzing threat, nor is he a perfect fit playing the nickel spot,” Cummings said. “However, Nubin has enough versatility between two-high, single-high, slot, and second-level roving roles, and he can be an impact player as an NFL field safety with his blend of football IQ, coverage mobility, physicality, and ball-hawking instincts.”

Andru Phillips, CB, Round 3, Pick 70

New York is clearly prioritizing rebuilding the secondary on day two of the 2024 NFL Draft. The Giants selected Kentucky cornerback Andru Phillips with the No. 70 overall selection in the third round. Phillips should immediately compete for a starting role in New York.

Pro Football Network’s Ian Cummings analyzed Phillips’ versatility and ability in run support in his scouting report.

“Andru Phillips brings plenty to like overall,” Cummings said. “With a bit more refinement on the operational side, he can be a quality starter, with ideal coverage versatility, proactivity in run support, and the role flexibility to play outside or in the slot.”

Theo Johnson, TE, Round 4, Pick 107

After passing on a quarterback in the first round, the Giants have added another weapon for Daniel Jones to target in the passing game. New York selected Penn State tight end Theo Johnson with the No. 107 overall selection in the fourth round.

Pro Football Network’s Ian Cummings discussed Johnson’s ability in his scouting report.

“Theo Johnson profiles reasonably well as a quality TE2 who fits a niche with his receiving skill set and provides exciting utility as a usage-versatile blocking presence.”

Tyrone Tracy Jr., RB, Round 5, Pick 166

Following the departure of star running back Saquon Barkley in free agency, New York has added a weapon to their backfield. The Giants selected Purdue running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. with the No. 166 overall selection in the fifth round.

Pro Football Network’s Ian Cummings discussed Tracy’s skillset in his scouting report.

“Tyrone Tracey Jr.’s ability to pass protect, create mismatches in the passing game as a receiver, and contribute in the return game already make him a candidate to make an NFL roster. Yet, combining that with his explosive athletic profile and impressive creativity as a runner could lead to a starter-level type ceiling at the next level.”

Darius Muasau, LB, Round 6, Pick 183

After focusing on adding offensive weapons to start day three, the Giants addressed the defense with their final selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. New York selected UCLA linebacker Darius Muasau with the No. 183 overall selection in the sixth round. Pro Football Network’s Ian Cummings discussed Muasau’s potential in his scouting report.

“Don’t be surprised if Darius Muasau exceeds his draft capital down the line,” Cummings said. “He’ll have to land in the right spot — as he’s undersized and not quite an elite athlete — but he is explosive, tenacious, and a versatile two-phase defender with impressive blitzing chops and playmaking instincts. In 2023, he logged four sacks, 10.5 TFLs, and six pass breakups.”
